Unable to connect to Wifi, LAN works fine

I used Nighthawk R6000 router until suddenly none of my WiFi devices could connect anymore. "Unable to connect to Network". I tried several solutions including downgrading the firmware, but nothing worked.

I then got the R8000 an here the same thing. Windows 10 Laptop, Macbook, Android + IOS device, Samsung TV, nothing will connect via WiFi. But all works fine with cable.

Also I have tried several solutions like disabling 20/40 auto, downgrading the firmware to various versions as described in the forum but nothing works. This is so frustrating, especially since I had to pay extra to change the R6000 to the R8000.

Please provide a workaround or a solution. Otherwise I have to switch to another brand, which I really dont want to.

Re: Unable to connect to Wifi, LAN works fine

Do you have the R8000 or r8000P? You have one in the paragraph and the other in the signature.

what firmware is on it?

What modem/gateway is it connected to?

Does it not connect to the wifi at all? Does it connect and say "connected, no internet" what is actually happening?

Re: Unable to connect to Wifi, LAN works fine

It's the R8000, no idea why the Signature says R8000P, I registered the serial number, but the box clearly says Nighthawk X6 AC3200 R8000.

Currently it runs on Firmware V1.0.3.54_1.1.37, after having tried 1.0.4.28 as suggested in another solution in the forum. Obviously also the latest Firmware does not work.

Modem is just your default ISP (local provider) Broadband Modem with integrated WiFi router. I dont have any issues with Internet, all configured fine and when I connect any device via LAN all works fine.

I managed to get one device to connect with no internet, but only after I have assigned a static IP to the NIC with a 16 bit netmask prefix instead of the 24 bit that the router IP address is and DHCP should provide. If I set the NIC to DHCP I always get "Unable to connect to the Network".

Re: Unable to connect to Wifi, LAN works fine

What actual modem is it? if it has integrated wifi its a modem/router combo device.

running multiple routers can cause issues. Its called a double nat.

https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

have you tried the R8000 in access point mode?

I'd upgrade the firmware to at least the 1.0.4.28 firmware. Its the version prior to netgear armor. the Latest is 1.0.4.68.

If you upgrade, do a factory reset and then during the install, put it in access point mode.

Re: Unable to connect to Wifi, LAN works fine

The ISP modem is not the problem because a) all works fine with wired connection from the R8000 to device, b) it worked before just fine with the R6000 before suddenly it didnt about 2 weeks ago and c) it's exactly the same when I put the ISP modem in bridge mode.

As I said, wired is all fine. If double NATing was the issue that wouldnt work either. But only Wifi doesnt let anything connect.

I dont want to use the AP mode, I bought a router to use routing features. If I use only the AP mode, this was a tremendous waste of money.

Have you tried it?

Its easy to say its not the problem if you haven't tried it.

Sadly, not all isp device work properly in passthrough/bridge/modem only mode. the ISP isn't exactly encourged to buy the highest quality devices.

its why sometimes we say try putting the isp device in router mode and the netgear in access point mode.

Re: Unable to connect to Wifi, LAN works fine

I understand your point but I wouldnt say it doesnt work if I hadnt tried it with a modem-only device (cable modem > Router > Clients).

Same result on the latest firmware as well as 1.0.4.28 and 1.0.3.54.

Plus, why would wired connections be fine if it would be the issue you described?

Re: Unable to connect to Wifi, LAN works fine

On top of that, I just tried the same setup with a TP-Link Archer AX6000 and all works fine.

So most likely something broken with the Firmware of the Nighthawk Series

Or the tp-links auto-adjust to double nat's better.

It also works just fine with an Asus Router and even a crappy Belkin Router.

Let's be real here, Netgear messed up. In any case, I kept the TP Link and put the nighthawks in storage. If Netgear doesnt come up with a fix in 3 months, they go to the bin.

If a client device can't connect to the router, then it's not a
WAN/Internet problem; it's an argument between the client device and the
router.

"Unable to connect to Network" is different from "Unable to connect
to Internet".  Do those quotation marks mean that you're showing the
actual message, or are you providing a "helpful" summary or
interpretation of the actual message?  The usual client-router problem
is a disagreement about the passphrase for the specific SSID.

> [...] I have tried several solutions [...]

"solutions" for what?  Thanks for the helpful links.  If it solves
nothing, then it's not really a "solution"

Did you look at the router settings to verify that the relevant
wireless passphrases are correct?  Or any of the rest of the router's
configuration?  (All of which is invisible to the non-psychics in your
audience.)

Now you're getting frightening.  Aside from providing no actual
information about what you did, there's no reason to expect anything
like that to improve the situation.

At the point where everything stops making sense, I'd do a settings
(misnomer: Factory) reset, and manual reconfiguration.

Or the configuration of your router is corrupt/defective.  "the
Nighthawk Series" is rather more broad than your one or two devices.

   1. Tell someone who cares?  Open a formal support case?

   2. Without a coherent, detailed problem description, what, exactly,
do you expect Netgear (or anyone else) to do?
