Unable to map network drive on R7000 after enabling VPN

Hi, I have a network drive that has worked fine for long time - after having enabled VPN on my R7000 I'm no longer able to access it or map it again. Using the WD software I can see it's working as should, but.....

Thanks

Re: Unable to map network drive on R7000 after enabling VPN

It is quite possible the drive is corrupt. Can you try connecting the drive to a PC directly, that is into a USB port on a PC?

I say that as I had a similar problem and when I did that the PC had to run CHKDSK before it could be used on the PC.

Can you use NET USE to connect to it and assign a drive letter and view it? Like this:

-------------------------

C:\>net view
Server Name            Remark
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
\\IRV8700              Irv's 8700
\\READYSHARE           readyshare
The command completed successfully.

C:\>net view \\readyshare
Shared resources at \\readyshare
readyshare
Share name       Type  Used as  Comment
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
USB_2.0_Storage  Disk           read:admin;write:admin
The command completed successfully.

C:\>net use x: \\readyshare\usb_2.0_storage
The command completed successfully.

C:\x:

X:\>dir
Volume in drive X is USB_2.0_Storage
 Volume Serial Number is 6F06-9E72

 Directory of X:\

               9 Dir(s)  1,208,330,563,584 bytes free

Not sure if that will work though if the disk is corrupt or not?

Re: Unable to map network drive on R7000 after enabling VPN

The resource browser since Windows 10 Creator does not locate SMB 1 resources unless the SMB 1.0 is re-activated after an upgrade. I have had issues when the USB is activated on an R7000 and it seems to become the Master Browse on the network.

If the resource has not changed, you can potentially still find it using RUN (right click on on Start Menu choose Run) and enter the resource name, i.e. \\NetworkDriveName

Re: Unable to map network drive on R7000 after enabling VPN

@StigKannegaard,

What OS are you using?

If you remove VPN does it work as it did before?

What firmware is installed?

Any other changes have you made?

What are all the troubleshooting steps you used and made?

If on Windows, open a CMD prompt and enter NET VIEW. Do you see the USB share?

If on Windows, open Windows Explorer and expand on the left side NETWORK, do you see the USB Share?

What if ANY error codes or dialog error windows did you get related to this?

Re: Unable to map network drive on R7000 after enabling VPN

Hi IrvSp,

Windows 7 Professional, SP1

I have not tried to remove VPN, but have tried to run without VPN activated - problem unchanged.

Firmware V1.0.9.26_10.2.31  on my R7000.

No other changes.

My network drive is a Western Digital MyBookLive - when I use the WD software, I see the drive OK, working, but when I try to MAP NETWORK DRIVE I get the message (error) as attached.

When I click the Windows Network Diagnostics, I the second error attached.

Running the CMD prompt, I get the 3rd error.

See attachment 4 for what I see in Windows Explorer - where I DO see it.

Thanks

Stig
