Update seems bricked R8500 router.

Hi to all.

As I mensioned before I had fixed the second R8500 in halph houre.

I gave it to a friend working perfectly for a complete day.

After a day he called me sorry I did an update and the router is not working.

I asked him to bring it back.

I observed a red constant light.

I started the 30/30/30 procedure.

I ping the router cmd>ping 192.168.1.1 I get back return of 1 ms passed.

Next I start Putty and I control c and I got my CFE.

I send the command (nvram erase) and I get 0 which passed.

I send the command (tftpd) and it goes tftpd server ready passed.

Now I go to dos cmd>tftp -i 192.168.1.1 put c:\R85.chk

I get cmd> connect request failed.     Bad message Failed.

I ping the router cmd>ping 192.168.1.1 1ms responce.

I repeted the same procedure with Kitty and I get the same results.

This tells me CFE is not opening the port to the dos command.

This time I found a new problem from the Netgear software update.

A softwere engeneer has to tell us what is the problem.

On telephones we can rebuild them if they are dead but this router is impossible to rebuilt.

Help.

Re: Update seems bricked R8500 router.

As always, I am comming back to tell you the solution.

I found that the setup of my ethernet connection was set at TCP/IPV4 to 192.168.1.1

This was the error for the setting.

So correct the IP to 192.168.1.10

Follow my instractions.

Now the router is fixed again.

Next update is how we change the nvram to a new one that will accept the new firmware from Netgear.

Happy Holy Days.

Re: Update seems bricked R8500 router.

Hi All.

Today I decommissioned my Netgear R8500 router.

The reason I was missing my 5 ghz channel for the old wifi units.

I only get 2 other channels the same frequency for the new units.

At this point I regret that I bought this unit as is.

I never believed that Netgear will change the nvram software and let the rest of the units incopatable.

I will waight for a uniform firmware update until will be available. This means goodby router.

I will also as engineer will complain to them that they forgot the customers who have problems with the routers.

Best regards.
