VoIP phone cannot initiate outgoing call with R7000 Router Installed

I have had my Nighthawk R7000 Router installed and set up, it works fine except my SIP-based VoIP phone cannot make any outgoing calls anymore (it can still receive calls properly). The error code I got is SIP 400 “Bad Request”, which means the request could not be understood due to malformed syntax (RFC3261). In other words, the outgoing request has been modified by the R7000 router, so the VoIP ISP server could not understand the request anymore, the call initiation request is declined.
The VoIP ADA I use is Obihai OBI202, which works perfectly with my VoIP ISP server before Nighthawk R7000 Router installation (now the OBI202 ADA has to go through R7000 router to connect to the internet).
Could someone tell me how to configure the router to make sure the outgoing SIP request will not be modified?
Here is the additional information:
Nighthawk R7000
Firmware Version V1.0.7.12_1.2.5
OS - Windows R7 Enterprise
OBI202 goes through R7000 router to connect to internet.

Re: VoIP phone cannot initiate outgoing call with R7000 Router Installed
This is just a shot but try playing around with the SIP ALG toggle in WAN Setup.

After disabling SIP ALG in WAN setup, it works now. Thanks for your help.

Re: VoIP phone cannot initiate outgoing call with R7000 Router Installed
After selecting the "Disable SIP ALG" option in the WAN setting, the outgoing calls from VoIP phone works. But the incoming calls to VoIP phone only partially work, it only works right after the VoIP phone generates an outgoing call; after 5 minutes, the VoIP call is not reachable anymore. Any call to this VoIP phone will get an announcement "The subscriber you are calling is not available". Are there any other settings I need to adjust?

Hi mtlviya,
Check this firmware version of the router.

Hi JamesGL,
The firmware I have is exact the "Firmware Version V1.0.9.6_1.2.19".
I encountered this problem on this version of this firmware.

Re: VoIP phone cannot initiate outgoing call with R7000 Router Installed
Hi JamesGL,
Thanks for your prompt help.
After configuring the VoIP phone as the Default DMZ Server, both the incoming calls to the VoIP phone and outgoing calls from the VoIP phone work now.
I will do more tests in the several upcoming days to see if it keeps working and if it works in other scenarios, I will have the results posted.
According to the R7000 User Manual (May of 2017), page 119, as below.
"DMZ servers pose a security risk. A computer designated as the default DMZ server loses much of the protection of the firewall and is exposed to exploits from the Internet. If compromised, the DMZ server computer can be used to attack other computers on your network"
Since what I have exposed is just a VoIP phone, I guess the risk is very limited, right?
Thanks again for your help.

Re: VoIP phone cannot initiate outgoing call with R7000 Router Installed
Hi mtlviya,
Yes that is correct since this is not a computer that can be used to access local devices.
