Wifi access point | WNHDE111

Hi there Netgear community

Im basicly a noob about anything computer/wifi related, so I really hope that you guys can/will help me :smileyvery-happy:

The case is:

My router is old. Like, very old. If it were a human it would clearly have gray hair. So....

My router can only run on the 2.4ghz, but I really want to run on 5ghz. So I asked the company, that deliver my internetconnection and asked them for a device. They recommended me to buy an access point that can run on the 5ghz. The guy in the phone did not sound very interested in my inquiry, so I will also just ask this awesome community....

If I buy an access point that can run on the 5ghz, would I then be able to have 5ghz on that network even if the hosting router only can run on 2.4ghz ?

Thanks for the help. And stay healthy in these crazy times.

Yes.  That's the purpose of a wireless access point.

A wireless router is a non-wireless router combined with a wireless
access point.  You can attach more than one WAP to a router.
