Will netgear r7500 handle gigabit Internet?

Hello, I have a R7500 wifi router and recently I upgraded my Internet speed to the gigabit soeeds (gigabit Internet).
Will this wifi router handle it? Will it be able to deliver through wired connections close to gogabit speeds?
Is this a recommended wifi router for gigabit Internet? I will not enable QoS and will not enable traffic control. My ps4 is set to static ip ans its on the dmz.
Thank you,

Re: Will netgear r7500 handle gigabit Internet?

Go for R7800 if you can push the budget not much different i see. But if you are tight budget go for R7000. But better be R7800

So far only R7000 and R7800(2nd Wave 2 Gen)

can give Lan to WAN 941Mbps throughput. None of high end even the x8 and x10 cant deliver that speed for now.

The reason I asked is that I alread own a R7500v2 already. I could get a 4XS but will it be much different in performance as the R7500v2 ?

You can try it and see. Disable QoS and Traffic Metering on the NG router first.

yeap! it works pretty well. I did a passtrhough from the ISPs modem/router to my nighthawk and it can achieve speeds up 940Mpbs.

Re: Will netgear r7500 handle gigabit Internet?

What I decided to do is to dedicate the R7500 just as an AP. I had another wifi router, the R8000, I instaled the tomato shibby firmware, disabled all wifi, and I'm using it just a a router. Connected to it its my R7500 just serving as an AP for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wifi, and I also connected to the R8000 my Cisco SG200 to connect to the rest of wired network devices.

I tried to setup the OpenVPN client on my R8000, and when connected to PIA I can get only speeds up to 45Mbps and the CPU (overclocked to 1.2Ghz) goes to 85%.

I also tried to setup the VPN client on ny QNAP NAS (it has a quad core celeron 2.0Ghz) and sharing the VPN tunnel to my network - with this setup I get 65Mbps.

I checked and PIA speeds are usually around 400Mbps when direclty connected to my PC.

I read a lot about it and to be able to share a VPN conection to the network without losing bandwidth the router must have at least a i3 dual core 3.0Ghz to be able to process the NAT+VPN tunnel connetion - the only alternative is to build a router and use pfsense (or Linux).

Does anyone have a similar enviroment ?

Re: Will netgear r7500 handle gigabit Internet?

Glad your using the 7500 as an AP.

From what I know, VPN speeds are more limited and you might not get great speeds while using VPN due to all the processing. Something you should follow up on with users on the Tomato forum.
