The r8900 should work with any modem including the cm1100.
When you are bringing to two of them up be sure to follow the following procedure.
Power down both the modem and router.
Now power up just the modem and let it stablize, about 5 minutes or so. Should be able to tell by lights.
If the router is not connected to the modem you can connect now or wait.
Power up the router. The router should see the modem and connect and have access to internet.
Now ready for config of router if you have not already done it.
