I'm new to netgear and need advice on connecting and setting up my router. Don't laugh but my questions are very stupid. first do I dosconnect my existing router? Secondly I turn off my cable modem and them turn it back on.. Doesn't make sense. How long should it stay off? third after witing my net router can I connect my MAc via ethernet and all my other devices through wifi or do all devices need to be wifi?

Does this mean that you actually have an R6700v3?

Ok.

Which "the manual"? "Installation Guide"? "User Manual"?

The app is supposed to work, but I'd skip it, and go straight to the
web-browser method.

Probably not.
The WNR2000v5 is a single-band router (2.4GHz). An R6700v3 is a
dual-band router (2.4GHz and 5GHz). It would probably simplify things
if you configured the wireless stuff on the R6700v3 so that its 2.4GHz
radio uses the same wireless credentials (SSID, passphrase) as the
WNR2000v5 used on its (only) 2.4GHz radio. That should let your
existing devices connect to the R6700v3 as before.
Look for "Specify Basic WiFi Settings" in the User Manual.
I'd select a similar-but-different SSID for the 5GHz radio on the
R6700v3. (Perhaps "xxxxx-5" instead of "xxxxx".) Then, if any of your
devices can use the 5GHz band, you can reconfigure them to do that
whenever it's convenient.

Not a model number. Look for "Model" on the product label.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read.

What is your "my existing router"? Maker? Model number?
To what is your "my existing router" connected? What is your "my
cable modem"? Maker? Model number?
Most likely, you wouldn't be able to connect both your (unspecified)
"my existing router" and your (poorly identified) new "my router" to a
cable modem at the same time, so you'd need to disconnect the old router
eventually.

Are you following some set of instructions or other?
It might not be necessary, but cycling the power (off, on) on a
device forces it to restart fresh, which can be helpful when its
environment changes.

A few seconds should be enough.

If your (poorly identified) new "my router" has LAN Ethernet ports,
then you should be able to use them for connections to devices which
have Ethernet ports (using Ethernet cables). That's why they're there.

Re: connectingac1750v3
So sorry for my ignorance. I currently have a Netgear WNR2000v5 router connected to my Surfboad modem model SB6141 provided by my cable company. the directions on the manual said to unplug modem power leaving modem connected to wall jack then turn back on after wiring up the new modem. Then it says use the nighthawk app to finiwh loading. I have 8 other devices so I presume I will have to turn them on and search for the new network.

The WNR2000v5 is a single-band router (2.4GHz). An R6700v3 is a
