Do a factory reset. Press the Reset button at the back for 5-10 seconds

Re: deselected DHCP now can't get in to router

yep that would be the quick fix but it's something i'm trying to avoid doing.

i have like 50 fixed IP and mac addresss which would not be fun working out which one goes to which device.

plus i can't even think of all the port forwarding that would need sorting ..

and yep the backup config file is on a corrupted hard drive...

i'm having a real sh.................. day........

so any idea of a work arounds.

Assuming you had not changed the default subnet, configure e.g. any typical default subnets like 192.168.1.123/24 or 192.168.0.123/24 address (255.255.255.0) subnet.

Which "the DHCP box"?  ADVANCED > Setup > LAN Setup : Use Router as
DHCP Server?  Or something else?

Now that we know what did _not_ happen, perhaps you might reveal
what, exactly, _did_ happen when you tried that?  As usual, showing
actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.

I doubt it.  What's your _computer's_ IP address?

If your computer (Ethernet interface) now has a self-assigned IP
address ("169.254.x.y", because you disabled your only DHCP server),
then you should assign it some appropriate static address.  Something
like, say, "192.168.1.123" might be good to use with a model Rxxxx
router.

How-to details would depend on which OS your (unspecified)
computer/device is running.  When the router's DHCP server is working
again, you should be able to restore your computer's (Ethernet
interface) properties to their original (use-DHCP) settings.

> Assuming [...]

I think that he means the same thing, if you can guess that he means
that you should do this on your computer.

Re: deselected DHCP now can't get in to router

 hi antinode thanks for that.

i forgot the simple rules

1 stop panicking about what you may have done

2 stop and think about what you've actually done

and the answer to 2 is not alot.

for some unknown reason i thought i had removed the routers IP which obviously i hadn't.

so i manually fixed an IP to the laptop then typed the routers IP in to the browser and lo and behold the routers login page appeared.

logged in, turned DHCP back on, happy days.

Thanks

That was the sense of my one line proposal above ....
