gs108v4 all but one pc doesn't connect to the LAN
Hi, I'm Paolo and I'm new here.
I got a brand new gs108v4 unmanaged switch.
We're 4 of us, each one with his own laptop.
I have an ISP modem/router wifi with 4 lan port, one of which is also wan.
The gs108 is connected to a lan port of the modem/router.
I have an access point connected to the gs108. It is an old ISP modem/router wifi, with dhcp disabled and wifi repeater enabled, with 4 lan port, one of which is also wan.
Each room of the house has a lan plug.
All the laptops work fine in wifi.
All laptops but one work fine with the eth cable, connected either to the gs108 or the modem/router switch or the access point switch.
The one that does't link via cable, doesn't work ONLY when connected to the gs108v4, or to a port of the access point. It works fine, at 1gb, full duplex, if connected to the modem/router port.
All the ports of the GS108 are working well; I tested it with different PCs and cables.
I tried:
- all the combinations of wan/lan connections with different cables and pc;
- booting different kernel;
- booting with a live cd;
but the situation is still the same.
In the terminal, the eth interface is reported 'down' and led of gs108 are off only when the funny laptop is connected to gs108.
Do you have any suggestions? thank you very much

The WAN port is usually there to connect the router to the Internet through a modem or something else. It is not always (usually?) available for LAN connections.
But without knowing what this router is that is anybody's guess.
I have an access point connected to the gs108. It is an old ISP modem/router wifi, with dhcp disabled and wifi repeater enabled, with 4 lan port, one of which is also wan.
That is not the best way to reuse a router as an access point. But again, without knowing what this router is that is another guess.
As the only piece of Netgear equipment here seems to be the switch, asking about that in this section, which is for routers, isn't the best approach.
You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
Switches - NETGEAR Communities
I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.
In the meantime you could visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.
You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

No problem. No one can blame you for getting lost in Netgear's labyrinth.
