iPad won't connect to new Nighthawk Netgear router AC1900 model R6900

Got new router set up today.  laptop computer connects to it.  ipad finds the wifi and asks for Netgear password.  I put in the netgear pw, but the ipad says it is incorrect.  I checked carefully and I am entering it correctly

delete/forget any previous connections IF using same SSID as old router
