internet speed wire router

Hi

my internet speed wired is 240 Mbps but wireless, sitting in front of the router it is only 80-100 Mbps.

It drops further moving away from the router.

The R8000 is only 4 years old.

Do you recommend replacing the router or obtaining a mesh system for a three story house?

the MK 63 AX1800 is on sale at Costco,

do you recommend it?

thank you

Re: internet speed wire router

The R8000 (X6) is technically a 802.11ac Tri-Band Gigabit device,  AC3200 (600 + 1300 + 1300 Mbps), Tx/Rx or MIMO 3x3 (2.4 GHz) + 3x3 (5 GHz) + 3x3 (5 GHz).

Said that, technically, the 2.4 GHz could do up to ~450 Mb/s, both the 5 GHz could do up to ~850...900 Mb/s each - permitting the wireless client can deal with it.

Trouble is, Apple ws the last computer maker has ceased from including 3x3 Wi-Fi clients, most notebooks come with 2x2 Wi-Fi AC clients, typically 80 MHz bandwidth today, low cost computers and mobiles even less. This makes the 2.4 GHz nominal 300 Mb/s (this is indeed 802.11n - but standard on ac devices) could do up to ~200 Mb/s, both the 5 GHz are nominal 866 Mb/s (at 80 MHz) could do up to ~550...600 Mb/s each.

Wild guess: Your computer might use a basic 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi client only.

You still consider to buy a new router?

Let's have an eye.

MK63 AX1800, 802.11ax, dual-band, 2.4 GHz (600 Mb/s, 2x2), 2x2 5 GHz (1200 Mbps, 2x2). To reach these numbers you need again a very decent Wi-Fi client, if you are keen on the performance (~400 Mb/s on 2.4 GHz, ~800 Mb/s on 5 GHz, a similar spec'ed 802.11a (aka. WiFi 6) one.

Re: internet speed wire router

Netgear has set up a community forum specifically for the NightHawk MESH products. Might be more likely to find someone who has a solution if the question is posted there:

Please use this link to the main forum product list to review and choose where to make your posts.

Re: internet speed wire router

@FURRYe38 perfectly fine here - the concern is about the "slow" R8000 .... in reality more about the wireless client causing the problem there. Please consider to change your Bot configuration, or look into your RPA system. No long texts, no full quotes required - waste of bandwidth, time, and display resources only.

@Cardio unless you need more coverage by a mesh system, and you intend to update at least the computer you are speed-sensitive, you can keep your R8000 in my honest opinion.
