nighthawk R7000P & R7000 - Unable to turn off WPS and question about preamble
I have 2 Nighthawks 1 x R7000 and 1 x R7000p set up as AP's on my Gigabit LAN, at opposite ends of my house.
Firmware on the R7000 is : V126.96.36.199_10.2.64
Firmware on the R7000p is V188.8.131.52_10.1.36
Background : I recently noticed random icons / devices appearing on my Windows 10 Network browser on 3 different machines, random phones and Smart TV's, so when i looked into it, i kept seeing people saying "Disable WPS" which, to be honest with you, i thought i had already disabled ages ago.
So i go to the advanced wireless settings on my R7000p first and i see the following text (I'm in the UK) :
"WPS Settings (deaktivováno, pokud je aktivní aplikace Smart Connect)"
So first things first, i believe that is Czech language, so wtf is it doing there on an English page on a router set to English.
but lets leave that one to one side for now and concentrate on the technical aspect.
(It says that WPS settings are deactivated because Smart connect is active.)
Does this mean that WPS is left "Open" or "Shut" when Smartconnect is active, because if it means it is left open, isn't that a brute force security issue ?
Same issue on the R7000 although it doesnt give any warnings in foreign languages.
Second question :
If i set a Long preamble for 2.4Ghz, and a short preamble for 5Ghz, then enable Smart Connect, which one takes priority ?
I was playing with this to try and ensure that my iPhone connected to 5G whenever possible.
it seems to have worked on the R7000. bu when i go to advanced settings it appears to have set long preamble for both when using Smart connect.
Why why why why.
Thanks in advance for any insights / explanations.
