nighthawk X4S AC2600 model R7800 not connected to WiFi network, but hardwired

Just bought Nighthawk X4S AC2600 Smart WiFi router Model#R7800, won't let me install netgear genie on desk top computer. Have ethernet cable from router to computer. Won't let me log on to routerlogin.net/.com says I must be connected to the router's wifi network. can access on samsung phones, but need to access on desk top. running windows 10 and avast virus software. Tried disabling firewall, no luck. Internet works fine, just can't get netgear genie on desk top. Have used chrome and microsoft explorer. no luck.
