Re: password change on router
If you don't know your current password and didn't setup (or don't know) the password recovery option, then you'd need to factory reset to get back to defaults.
to reset, push and hold reset for 7-15 seconds while powered on.
that'll get you back to the defaults. then just reinstall the router

Re: password change on router
> I want to change password on my Netgear AC1200 Netgear71 [...]
As explained elsewhere, "AC1200" is a speed, not a model number.
Look for "Model" on the product label. Or, look more closely at the
box.
"Netgear71" (which, I assume, was actually "NETGEAR71") is also
not a model number. ("I need a new oil filter for my car. Its license
plate number is ...")
_Which_ "password"?
You might save everyone a good deal of time and effort by trying this
radical concept (which works for some people):
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RTFM
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model number,
and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read.
Look for topics like "Types of Logins", "Basic Wireless Settings", and
"Reset". Further reading might not hurt, either.
