r6700v2 -Cannot Login into my router

So, I've had this router for a few months and it's worked great.  We just moved into a new place and had to have Mediacom for our internet, they came in and set up their modem and everything on Tuesday.  Last night we hooked up our router to the modem, and the internet light went solid amber.  After troubleshooting for that, it is now solid (ish, it still blinks) white. Awesome.  Only took me half a day.

However, now I cannot login to my router using the IP address of the http://www.routerlogin.net/ address.  It continues to say that I am not connected through wifi on my router. I have followed their steps, and unplugged the router and modem several times, I've done a factory reset, I've cleared my cookies and my browsing date from the 'beginning of time', I've used my phone and my macbook, I've tried different outlets, I've restaretd my computer - nothing is working.  I do not have an adapter to plug an ethernet cable into my macbook.  I am able to easily search the internet, but gaming systems aren't working and apps on my phone don't work either. PLEASE HELP.  I have literally done nothing all do but mess around with this.

Hi kschmitt23,

May I please know the brand and model of the modem. Per your last update, Internet LED is amber. Do you have Internet connection straight from the modem?

Please temporarily disconnect the router from the modem, leave the computer connected to the router WiFi network and try accessing the network.

That's a name, not an IP address.  (The IP address was more likely to
work.)  Welcome to what may be the worst error message in the world.
For an explanation, try:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1365830

Briefly, the idea is that "[www.]routerlogin.net" (or ".com") should
point to your own router, but that's true only if you use your own
router for DNS name resolution.  Regardless, you should be able to get
to the thing using its IP address, if you can determine (or guess) that.
Normally, that would be something like "192.168.1.1", but it could be
different.

Mostly a waste of time, as you've discovered.

> [...] I am able to easily search the internet, but gaming systems

Not a very detailed description of what works, or, when it doesn't,
what you did, and what happened when you did it.  As usual, showing
actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.

Getting the misleading/useless error page from
"http://www.routerlogin.net/" suggests that your computer/device is
using something other than your router as its DNS server.  Normally,
you'd need to take special steps to get a wireless device to use
something other than your router as a DNS server.

That misleading/useless error page comes from a Netgear server, so,
if you can get to it, then you are connected to the Internet, and DNS
name resolution may be your only problem.  You might explore the network
settings of your various gizmos with "DNS" in mind.

Re: r6700v2 -Cannot Login into my router

First of all, I am using the IP address that I am getting from my system preferences ( 192.168.0.233).  When I type that into my address bar I get the error message:

This site can’t be reached

192.168.0.233 refused to connect.

The name address doesn't work either.

If you need more details:

I can do anything online using google chrome on my macbook air.  On my phone none of my apps work saying I need to check my internet connection, and retry later - or they simply load until they time out.  Our PS4 will simply not connect to the internet.  I'm not sure how much more detailed about this I can be, I have no idea why chrome works on my computer.

I thought I had it figured out, was out of the house for about 2 hours came home and the internet LED light was solid amber again.  The only way to get the internet to work is to reset the modem, naturally I don't want to do this several times a day and I STILL am not connected to the wifi through my router.

Which "the IP address that I am getting from my system preferences"
is that?  Around here, for a wireless connection, System Preferences >
Network shows the computer's _own_ IP address ("IP address").  If you go
from there to Advanced... > TCP/IP, then you should see the computer's
own IP address ("IP address:"), a "Subnet Mask:" (typically
"255.255.255.0"), and a "Router:" address.  Nearby, Advanced... > DNS
should show one or  more "DNS Server:" addresses.  What are all those
data on your MacBook?

>   When I type that into my address

If you're pointing your web browser at your computer's own IP address
(and you're not running a web server on your computer), then that would
be an expected result.  Note that this error differs from the "not
connected" error reported originally.

If you point your web browser at the "Router:" address, then you
should reach your router.  (If your computer's IP address is
"192.168.0.233", then my guess for the router's IP address would be
"192.168.0.1".)

> I can do anything online using google chrome on my macbook air.

Ok.  That suggests that the router is connected to the Internet.
Which wireless SSID did you specify on the MacBook?  Can you see that
SSID on your other devices?  Are you trying to connect to it on them?

> [...] On my phone none of my apps work saying I need to check my
> internet connection, and retry later - or they simply load until they
> time out. [...]

Did you get these devices to connect wirelessly to the router?

> [...] I've done a factory reset, [...]

That should reset any wireless credentials (SSID, passphrase) back to
their default values (as shown on the product label).  If your other
devices are still configured to use some customized wireless credentials
(from before the settings reset), then you'd need to re-configure the
router's wireless stuff, or else re-configure the wireless parameters of
the devices.

> [...] I'm not sure how much more detailed about this I can be, [...]

I do.  Plenty more.  If your MacBook can talk to the Internet, then
it should be able to talk to your router.  (See above.)

> [...] Our PS4 will simply not connect to the internet.

When you do _what_?  Clearly, you need to tell the PS4 about your
wireless network.  What information are you giving it?  What information
can you get from the router about its wireless configuration?

> [...] I have no idea why chrome works on my computer.

   I don't know why it wouldn't, but I can't see what you're doing.

> [...] came home and the internet LED light was solid amber again.
> [...]

You'd need to talk to the router to see what's happening.  I'd work
on that.

Who's your ISP?  What feeds the router?  What's connected to its
WAN/Internet port?  Does that device have LED indicators which indicate
anything?
