r7000 router

Hi everyone.
I'm new to forum and would like some advice regarding a future secondhand purchase of above router.
When I buy router is there any details I need from the seller, such as passwords etc?
Also ,I intend to use this to replace my virgin media superhub 3 fibre router. I understand that the VM router can be put in modem mode when I attach the r7000.
What is installation like as this would be the first time I have attempted this,is it a straightforward process to get the Netgear router up and working?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Re: r7000 router

The default user and password are printed on the box of the device. They are usually "admin" and "password".  But first put your modem/router from your ISP in bridge mode then connect the R7000 to it and go to http://192.168.1.1 using the above credentials to longin. Then you can configure things. If you need more help, post in this thread

Re: r7000 router

The ASUS model is definitely better than the R7000 which is slowly showing its age but is still capable for many people

If we are talking about an Asus router rather then a AC3200 Netgear go for it. netgear firmware is not stellar right now.

Re: r7000 router

Cannot speak to how reliable Asus AC3200 is. Have you looked at Asus sites?

Another good resource is smallnetbuilder site. Link to Tim's review. If you go that way RMerlin makes a very good 3rd party firmware based on Asus firmware. He works with Asus to get the source.
