I was wondering if you have to have the router connected to your modem.

Do I have to have my router connected to my modem directly with an Ethernet cable or is there a way to connect it to my modem wireless

Re: r7000

It depends on that your modem support. But it's more better to connect it via cable, because cable connections are more stable.

Have you read any of the installation instructions for your R7000 or
your (unspecified) "my modem"?  Did any of them suggest that you not use
an Ethernet cable between these devices?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  (If the Netgear web site is
working again.)

Re: r7000

While functioning as a router, the R7000 must be connected to the modem with an Ethernet cable.
