r7800 slow download over wifi...

No matter what I do my new r7800 gives me 20 download, 30 upload. My speeds are 400 download, 30 upload. So full upload, slow download, within 1 foot of the router.

The r7000 it replaced was giving me 100/20 or so about 25 feet away through 2 walls. This should be performing better?

I do not use open source firmware, and all settings at default do this.

Hi.

Sorry, but this section of the forum is solely dedicated to the Nighthawk XR500.

Re: r7800 slow download over wifi...

Where exactly would one go to get support on a Nighthawk X4S R7800 router then since ti's not the "Nighthawk WiFi Routers" forum.?

If this forum is deticated to only one nighthawk router, will someone please either rename the forum or at least put a pinned post letting all the other owners where we can get help?

I literally went to Netgear support for him and clicked 'wireless routers'.

Here we are.

So, that's a wireless connection from your (unspecified)
computer/device to the router?  Which radio band are you using?

With a high-speed Internet service, it may help to disable CPU-using
features like QoS.

If true, then why not ask a Moderator to move it, instead of adding
such unhelpful clutter?

Re: r7800 slow download over wifi...

So far I have disabled NAT, QoS, and WMM.

I'm using both bands, and switching between r7000 that's dying and a brand new 7800, and it seems the 7800 is having issues. I turned off all othe electronics, same result. Will try another reset.

I'd try a computer/device with a wired connection.  Is the problem
with the router-as-router, or with the router's wireless access point?

"r7000 that's dying" suggests that the problems are not confined to
the R7800.  Are you looking at one (non-router) problem which affects
both routers?  What's the ISP?  Modem?

What happens with a wired connection to the modem(?) instead of to a
router?

Wired works fine. 350/30 every time, multiple devices.

The r7800 was purchased a week ago to resolve the issues of the r7000 completely dropping signal and resetting the home file server. It is now being used to test settings to see if the problem is confined to the r7800. It is.

   >>>> What happens with a wired connection to the modem(?) instead of to a

The router and modem both download full speed via ethernet. 350/30 or so.

Wifi 2.4 Ghz 1 foot from r7000 I get 20 mbps /10 mbps

Wifi 2.4 Ghz 1 foot from r7800 I get 6 mbps/ 20 mbps

Wifi 5 1 foot from router r7000 I get 200 mbps /25 mbps

Wifi 5 1 foot from router r7800 I get 30 mbps/ 31 mbps (my max upload)

I have tried disabling NAT, QoS, WMM, and moving the device location, antenna, etc. Nothing more really. Definitely full speed, just not on wifi.

Re: r7800 slow download over wifi...

You do not want to disable WMM or you will get 11g speeds. I would do a factory reset, and not screw with the QoS, which is off by default. I would set the SSID's to be differnt on 2.4 and 5 GHz so you know on which band you are connected.

Using the Speedtest.net app on both an iPhone 8 and a Dell XPS13 (late 2017 model) on 5GHz channel 40 with 80 MHz bandwidth about 10 ft. line of sight from the router, I get 650 Mbps down from my local ISP, at least when I run this at 6:00 am when I can actually get 1 GBps. I have a 1 Gbps down and 50 Mbps up ISP service. I am running firmware v. 1.0.2.52. After you upgrade the R7800's firmware, I recommend a reset and manual reconfiguration.

Re: r7800 slow download over wifi...

get the wifi analyzer software for android (Free open source) and tell us the signal strength you are getting please.  Also please analyze which channel it is using and how many other AP's are using the same channel.

Please also make sure there are no misbehaving devices.  Shut down every wifi device except your single wireless device.

If you have a spare USB 3.0 memory stick, try transferring files from your device to the memory stick on the router.
