switch beteen Wifi Router and extender possible?

Have the Netgear R7000P-100PES AC2300 Nighthawk and the Netgear EX7500-100PES Nighthawk X4S Tri-Band WLAN Repeater.
The Router is located on the 1st floor, the repeater is located on the second floor.  For example my iPad have been connected in the evening to the repeater. Now next day I'm sitting direct in front of ther Router but seems the iPad still connects to the repeater. As the connection on the repater is much weaker than from the router is there any chance that the devices connect to the faster router when it is located in 1st floor?

Had to choose R7500 as R7000 is not known in the model drop down list

Is the iPad connecting to the extender if your sitting closer to the router?

Handling of signals is done by the device and it chooses what signals to connect to based on signal strengths.

If you disable wifi on the ipad then re-enable it, doe the ipad still connect to the extender or the router?

Yes, the iPad was connected to the extender even when sitting direct at the router - could test this by checking to which device I have been connected when log in to the device by www.routerlogin.net . Always logged in to the extender. I found a possible fix by rebooting the RTR. After that the iPad connected in the 1st floor to the router and on second floor to the extender. But this should not be a standard as it happened several times. Assume the router might be faulty? Updated the FW to the latest available on both devices yesterday after receiving them from mail

Re: switch beteen Wifi Router and extender possible?

How is the wifi configured on the router?

What modes are you using? UP to speeds?

What security modes are you using?

What channels are you using? 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz is best and any on 5ghz.

Any smart connect, beamforming or mimo featrues in enabled? Try disabling any of these if this router supports them.

Possible that the wifi on the extender is better than the R7000 router. The speeds are better with the EX7500 since the data rates are a bit better than the R7000.

What is the distance between the R7000 and the EX7500?

Re: switch beteen Wifi Router and extender possible?

at the moment it seems several (!) reboots of the router solved the issue. Since two days it stays stabil. When on 1st floor iPad is connected to RTR and when on second floor iPad is connected to extender. And always able to login to the rtr config.

Thanks for your help
