use http://192.168.1.1/start.htm on computer not nighthawk app on phone

Nighthawk X6 AC3200 Tri-Band WiFi Router
Model R8000

I've had this router for years and have always logged into  http://192.168.1.1/start.htm to control it. I was logged onto the control panel and I made some selection I should have left alone and now it won't let me log in via a browser but instead insist that I download an app onto my phone, but I do not want to do that. How do I fix this? Do I have to do a factory reset?

I've tried to find others with the same problem but the only one I found was impossible to understand because of snarky comments and they don't write in sentences just incomplete phrases.

  • I have this same router.

Be sure you factory reset and when you go to 192.168.1.1 first, scroll down toward the bottom of the page and select "don't have the app". Selecting this in the web browser will start the setup wizard process in the web browser. Once completed you'll be able to log into the routers web page using a web browser. BE sure to write down important information for safe keeping during the setup wizard process.

        Thank you  FURRYe38  Guru

That's just what I was looking for.

I hate Big Tech trying to take advantage of us by forcing a phone app on us so they can harvest data and feed us ads.

        Thanks
