AX12 AX6000 Failing to setup after factory reset

My google nest and sonos systems recently stopped connecting to my AX6000 WiFi Router (RAX120) #, but wifi was still functioning. The Nighthawk app and default gateway failed to connect to the router even though they were on devices currently using the router's wifi successfully. Routerlogin.com took me to an error page on netgear even after clearing browser cache.

I attempted to perform a factory reset on the router, which succeeded, and I could still connect to the wifi with the default name and password. However the Nighthawk app, default gateway, and routerlogin.com still behave the same way, so I cannot setup the router or access configuration settings, only access wifi with the default login info.

The firmware may be corrupt.

Re: AX12 AX6000 Failing to setup after factory reset

What firmware version do you have on the RAX120 device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.

It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The make and model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

Re: AX12 AX6000 Failing to setup after factory reset

@michaelkenward Is there a way to check the firmware version when I do not have access to the Nighthawk app or the router configuration page? Part of the issue is that 192.168.1.1 and routerlogin don't take me to the router configuration page so I have had limited access to troubleshooting info.

I don't have a modem that I have access to in front of the router, my ISP (WhyFly) has a building-wide setup with a rooftop access point and modem. However I can confirm that there are no changes to that access point and modem since it was working properly a few days ago, and that it is definitely not a modem/router combination.

I'm afraid I am not familiar with that sort of setup. If the whole building shares access from a single source, then the normal setup isn't relevant.

That rooftop box is probably some sort of router that has to  connec6t all the different clients to the outside world. So you may be sharing a connection. That means that the standard setup fr your RAX120 isn't appropriate.

That may explain why you cannot get at 192.168.1.1 and routerlogin. That is a classic sign of a network conflict.

The best people to talk to should be the ones who run this Internet service. They should know how you can connect a router.

Famous last words. These things are called "networks" for a reason. They are a set of things connected to each other. Each depends on the rest of the chain.

Most people turn up here with conventional networks with a modem that connects them to the Internet. Anything else is a bit specialist.

Re: AX12 AX6000 Failing to setup after factory reset

Unfortunately I already spoke with the ISP, that's how I know there were no changes made upstream since when it was working. The router stopped functioning properly while being used with no changes, and their instructions for setup were just to follow standard instructions on the router.

I do need to correct myself, 192.168.160.1 is the default gateway and what I was using to try to connect to. I can ping 192.168.160.1, but not access it in a browser,

A new symptom if anyone has any thoughts: Router now will not turn back on after a 30-30-30 reset. Power light has been flashing slowly for ~30 minutes.

@michaelkenward Thanks for the help. Manually updated firmware following those instructions and am now able to connect as expected once again.
