Connecting to 2.4ghz

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ phone. It always connects to 5ghz, which is fine and preferred most of the time. However, I am trrying to setup a smart plug, and it requires 2.4ghz. I can't figure out how to force it to connect to 2.4ghz. Do I have to disable Smart Connect entirely and do it that way....or is there a better way?

There is an almost endless thread on the Orbi community. Here again:
This is neither a Netgear nor any other smart or Mesh WiFi system problem!
- Complain to the maker of these smart plugs!
- Inform them thee is no 2.4GHz network - you have only one network where any available wireless or wired connection does connect your devices to.
- Inform the smart plug vendor that any wireless radio - regardless of the frequency (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, 6 GHz, 60 GHz and even all Ethernet switch ports connect to the very same network.
- Let them know there is no reason for checking the phone is connecting using the 2.4 GHz band in their App.
- Let the maker know that no modern mobile phone, no decent tablet, no Windows, Linux, or MacOS client has the ability to force the connection to 2.4 GHz only - their requirement is unreal.
- Let the maker know that modern router and Mesh systems do not allow forcing a mobile phone with an App to a specific band.
- Let them know they have no plan how wireless networking is done in the year 2020.
- Complain on that maker smart plug App that this is not acceptable in the Android Google Play Store that this requirement is not acceptable.
If the customers of that complete non-smart plug systems don't complain, they will never change this crappy App.
Workarounds:
Disable SmartConnect split 2.4 and 5 GHz, name the 2.4 GHz the same as the SmartConnect name was, keep the wireless security password. Your phone will connect to that 2.4 GHz only ....
Go away as far as possible from the router to a place where your mobile will only connect to 2.4 GHz ... because 5 GHz reach is always smaller ... and install these dumb plugs.
Once done, change to SmartConnect again, and ensure the previous name is used for the smart connect SSID.
Then complain again to this dumb plug vendor.
Last but not least, leave as much negative feedback on this dumb plug maker Web site, on Amazon and wherever this stuff is sold - feel free to copy from above. Otherwise, they will never learn an change.
