Do I get DOS protection without Netgear Armor Installed?

I have the RAX43 just installed.  The Netgear Armor is on a 30 day trial.  I dont intend to pay for it.  Will I still get the benefits of the router firewall such and protection again Denial of Service (DOS) attacks without the Netgear Armor?

Sadly, you see a lot of false reports from it sometimes.
