My RAX45 router is running firmware is v1.0.11.112. The Netgear prompts to update the firmware to v1.0.12.120. First, I used the Firmware Update Assistant. The process was stuck in the middle, the web page showed to wait to complete forever (over an hour). Surely during this period of time, there was no WiFi no internet during this period of time. Then I shut down the router and restarted it. The connection was recovered but firmware was still v1.0.11.112.
Later, I tried to manually update the firmware by downloading the firmware file to my computer, then uploading the firmware file through Advanced/Administration/Router Update page. Again, the process is stuck, no error message, no nothing. Surely, no wifi, no internet. I checked the router status LED. All the LED lights were lit green except that for internet. It was off. I had to shut down and restarted. Like the previous situation, the firmware was not updated, still v1.0.11.112.
What can I do to make firmware update work? Why does it not work?

Re: Firmware cannot be updated on RAX45
Yes. Does it fix firmware update issue? I did not see that it will resolve the issue that FW cannot be updated. If it does, do you suggest updating FW with this FW from v1.0.11.112 by skipping v1.0.12.120?

Re: Firmware cannot be updated on RAX45
One can skip over FW version and go directly to v.128.

Re: Firmware cannot be updated on RAX45
Without knowing exactly what you did, and no useful error messages, it is hard to diagnose what happened.
I assume that this is the process you used:
How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support
If the "Hotfix" fails then it is the process rather than the firmware. (I assume that you tried a different download.)
One thing that can unstick a reluctant update it to reset the router before you try the update.
You could create a backup of your existing configuration before you make the plunge.

Re: Firmware cannot be updated on RAX45
Be sure to save off a back up configuration to file for safe keeping. Saves time if a reset is needed.

Re: Firmware cannot be updated on RAX45
Thanks so much again! I am curious why v.128 is called HOT FIX.

Re: Firmware cannot be updated on RAX45
Apparently these were high priority items:
New Features:
- Support Speedtest server selection in web GUI.
- Support Unicode character for attached device name and router name.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixes the issue where USB stick can remove even files still in transmission.
- Fixes the issue where FW cannot restore by old configuration.
Security Fixes:
- This firmware addresses security vulnerabilities. For more information about security vulnerabilities, visit https://www.netgear.com/about/security
