Install RAX29 without a modem
My Netgear R6250 router is old, so I replaced with Nighthawk RAX29. The app wants the ethernet cord connected to the modem. I never had a modem with the old router - just plugged into the wall. Doing the same with the new router, I cannot get an internet connection. Seriously, must I also now buy a modem?

If you can connect to the router's WiFi, you can pull up that Web GUI page in a browser

That's the way to do it @Magoo7315 .
Connect iMac to the wifi. Fire up whatever browser you have, aim it as the usual addresses (routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1) and you should see the GUI.
When you get there, you may be able to use the "Internet setup wizard" to take you through the process.
At least, no longer warns against using Safari on this router.
The manual might help:
Visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.
Check the section in the manual
Use a web browser to access the router
You may have done that already. I can't tell from your message.
I mention it because Netgear gave up on supplying paper manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.
