Model R7000 AC1900 - Test Speed 97 Mbps for wired, vice 234 Mbps for Wireless, multiple computers

My Problem – My Router Speed Test from Spectrum and other places = 243 download and 8.3 upload with cable,  97 download and 11.5 upload with wireless

This has been repeated with two other computers on same router. The Hard line (cable) connection was from an  new MAC.

My ISP - Spectrum – 200 Mbps

My Router - Netgear nighthawk Model R7000 AC1900

  • Router SN 5P628A7MA2585

My Computer - Surface Laptop 3

HD                  240 gig

Processor   Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-1065G7 CPU @ 1.30GHz   1.50 GHz

RAM               16.0 GB (15.6 GB usable)

Running windows 10.0.19042 Build 19042

Internal Network adaptor – Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 160 MHZ  Dual Band 802.11 a/b/g

Driver 8/19/2021  22.80.0.9

Latest update from Netgear - Updated to V1.0.11.106_10.2.100 = NO HELP

Why the difference in download and upload, wireless vice cable

Because when connected wired, you don't have any interference and can get the full speeds. Wireless speed is always prone to distance, how further the distance how lower the speed and also the strength of the signal. Also the wireless signal can get distorted by building materials in your house and also other devices. Also it depends on the build in antenna's of your wireless integrated network chip.

Your title and the description were opposite.

What one is the slower network, the wired or the wireless?

What band are you testing on for wireless? 2.4ghz or 5ghz?

Wireless is slower, wired is fast speed

Checked Both 2.4 GHZ and 5 GHZ

Router is withen 6-12 feet from three different computers with the saame issue

Those are reasonable speeds for some wifi devices, especially 2.4 GHz stuff.

The speed you get depends on the wifi clients. Do these devices go a lot faster when you try them with wifi somewhere else.

It might be worth a bit of background reading.

Understand Wi-Fi 4/5/6 (802.11 n/ac/ad/ax)

@duckware knows their stuff and can bust a few myths and cut through marketing hype.

By the way, the R7000 isn't one of the WiFi 6 devices covered in this section.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

What device are you testing on to hit 100mbps over 2.4ghz?

2.4ghz is a slow network and sensitive to interference. And the R7000 is an 8 year old router.

its 2.4ghz was never that great.

How are you testing speeds? (device, app, etc)
