This showed up on a version of FW for the RAX50V1 a month or so ago. It appears that Netgear has added BitDefender to the firmware as part of a security update.
Enabling protection engine turns it on, disabling turns it off. That is basically the only control there is over it.
On the RAX50V1, I found that it used up quite a large hunk of memory with it enabled.

Noticed that first post of this this year, 1/2024, was original posted date by NG.
Happened to notice that for the 50 series, NG updated the RAX50v1 model on 7/2024, with out changing the FW version.
"Last Updated:07/11/2024"
All other RAX models have not been updated or changed and update date still reports 1/2024.
