Nighthawk RAX120 and Virgin Media SH3 Slow WiFi Speeds

Same problem here but with a RAX120. Copied and pasted this from a gent on here called Chris, i couldnt reply to the original thread for some reason. Hope you dont mind Chris.

I have recently purchased a Nighthawk RAX120 Router to pair with my Virgin Media SH3 as I was fed up with the drop outs that the SH3 was suffering from.

I have managed to get everything up and running via the Nighthawk App and all devices are connected and receiving internet.

My issue is that although I have a 350Mbps line (confirmed via the Nighthawk App and when connected via Ethernet) I am having major issues with anything connected via WiFi on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. For instance the best I have managed from a speed test on my phone is 80Mbps and that is sitting within 1 metre of the Router.

It's a bit gutting as even though the SH3 was suffering from drop outs I was always able to get 300Mbps+ when near my Hub on WiFi.

I am using the latest Firmware (v1.2.3.28) and I have QoS and Traffic Management both switched off.

Any advice would be appreciated. I have carried out factory resets after updating the firmware and this still doesn't fix the issue.

It would have been nice to have had a link to the question from "chris". In that way we wouldn't have to repeat whatever advice they received.

The Virgin Media SH3 is bound to be a modem/router. You are adding another router to your network.

Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.

This explains some of the other drawbacks.

It may be possible to put the modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router. But some Internet service providers, such as BT in the UK, supply modem/routers that won't work in bridge mode. There may be ways to get the modem/router to cooperate. Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:
