Problem with RAX 70 Router

Hi, this is my first post and I am a bit lost, so forgive my ignorance at times. I purchased a new RAX70 triband Nighthawk router in September of 2022. When I set it up it went well and I made a point of recording my username and password in a secure folder for future use. Fast forward to today. I am trying to connect some new smart lightbulbs that only use the 2.4 GHz network. Every time I try to install it says it cannot connect to my network. I checked to make sure my phone is on the 2.4 network for this operation. As I switched to this network I get a message saying it is blocked by access control in the router. I checked the activity lights on my router and I have a blinking white light on the 2.4 network indicating it is sending and receiving data. When I try to log onto my router using the username and password that I was so careful to save, it says no, that is wrong. I go to reset password and enter the serial number and answer the security questions and it says no, that too is wrong. So it appears to me I have no other option than to reset the router to factory defaults, which is not my first choice. My question, is this a common thing to have the username and password not work? Oh, and I also tried using the default username and password just in case it somehow had been reset, didn't work. If I reset to factory defaults will I have to go though allof the nearly 40 connections to the router and set each up again? Thanks for any helpl

The username isn't changeable for the router (and is admin).Keep in mind the login/password are all case/space sensitive. 

so you might have set something up different in the app if you changed a user name. That might also be why the password recovery (security questions) aren't give you the right answers. 

Might not be bad to factory reset and start over. Nice thing is you can use the same ssid/password and devices should just auto-connect. 

In terms of the smart bulbs, what ones are they? 

What modem/gateway is the router connected to?

What says " it cannot connect to my network"?

 

Is this an app on a smaryphone of some sort?

How are you going about this? If it is over WiFi, then you have to login to that before you can login to the router's graphical user interface (GUI).

 

The best way in is with a wired connection from a PC to the router.

 

Netgear makes life interesting by having all manner of passwords. There is the one into the router's controls, then there are those to get into the router's wifi, and then there any that you use to get into this Community and/or MyNetgear.

 

Different passwords pop up at different times, depending on how you connect to the device and where you are trying to access from, your local network or somewhere else on the Internet. (Previously known as Remote Access, that's now called Anywhere Access.)

 

If you are talking about access to the browser's graphical user interface (GUI), the router's controls, these are on the label for your device, along with the default wifi login details. The username is fixed at admin. The default password is password.

 

If you are trying to use the "password recovery" option, there is a bug in Netgear's implementation of password recovery on some devices. You can get locked into a closed loop.


If password recovery is enabled, but you have not set the answers to the questions, it keeps sending you back to the beginning of the process. If you haven't already given the thing your personal answers, they are not in its memory and it has no way of knowing if they are correct.


If the standard factory password (password) does not work, then you will have to factory reset the thing to get back to that. Then either disable password recovery (check the manual for your device) or provide some answers to those questions.
