RAX120v2 Wifi signal keeps dropping

Hi, my wifi signal keeps dropping almost every day and requires constant rebooting.  The problem is not with the modem.

Please help.

Thanks,

Phil

Re: RAX120v2 Wifi signal keeps dropping

What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

What is the first 3 characters of the routers serial number?

Re: RAX120v2 Wifi signal keeps dropping

I don't see a manufacturer name or model number.  What I do see is this:

ES2251

DOCSIS 3.1 eMTA

Made in Philippines

SD10

There is also a CM MAC number and a MTA MAC number

Does that help?

That is not a reliable guide. The app seems to miss some updates, especially if you are several versions behind.

The only way to really check is to look at the firmware version ans to compare that with the versions available on the support pages for your device.

Visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

That page will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device, if they exist.

As to your modem, Google isn't definitive. Probably just a  modem, but does it have extra LAN ports on the back? Does it do wifi?

The first three characters are: 6JY

The modem has only one ethernet port and two voice ports.  I don't know if it does wifi.   I picked it up new last week from the provider (Spectrum).

The firmware is up to date according to the product support pages.

Thank you so much for helping me!

Sounds like  modem only device.

Is that significant to my router problems?  Just curious.

Re: RAX120v2 Wifi signal keeps dropping

Please load this FW up:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-with-WiFi-6-AX-and/New-RAX120-RAX120v2-Firmware-Version-1...

Factory reset and setup from scratch after its loaded. It fixes randsom reboot issues seen by users with the 120v2 unit.

Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

Please lost this FW up:

Sorry, but I'm confused.  I don't have a reboot issue, I have a wifi signal dropping issue.  The router gives me no indication that the signal has dropped.  My devices will show no wifi until I reboot the router manually.

I am also confused by your words:  "please lost this FW up"  .  Do you mean, Please look this FW up?

If so, will I need to do a factory reset?  And if so, do I upload the FW before or after the reset?

Thank you,

Phil

Re: RAX120v2 Wifi signal keeps dropping

Please load up this version of FW. Factory reset after the FW is loaded and the router is back to ready:

Re: RAX120v2 Wifi signal keeps dropping

OK, I have uploaded the new FW, then saved settings, did a factory reset, then reloaded settings, so I assume the configuration is back to what it was.

So, now we see if that solved my issues?  Or is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks again,

Phil

Saving the config and introducing it back into the same may result in see the problem. IF you do again, reset and setup from scratch, this time do not load the saved config from back up..

What channel configurations are currently set on the router? Basic and advanced sections please.

Bad idea.

To clarify the other, possibly confusing, reply you received, reloading the settings can bring back the problem that you had in the first place.

Stick with the settings as they are, but, if you see the same problem, reset the device and see happens.

If you still have the problem, then you can reload the settings on the basis that you haven't reloaded the problem.

Don't believe it. Visit the support pages and compare your version with the latest.

Visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware.

That page will also have any software, firmware and drivers for your device, if they exist.

It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The make and model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?

The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

Do the router's logs offer any clues?
