RAX200 and PS5 - Moderate NAT
Hi all,
I have my PS5 hooked up to my router. I've set the router to reserve an IP address for the console's mac address, which it obtains everytime.
I've used port forwarding to open all the relevant ports for online gaming for the reserved IP address of the console. I also have uPnp enabled.
When I come to play COD: Cold War in the online settings of the game it says my NAT is moderate.
The message onscreen is;
"Your NAT type is moderate. A moderate NAT may experience problems connecting to other players who also have moderate NAT's.
The game tried to use UDP port 3074 to open the required port for an open NAT in-game"
Now i have this port in my custom service list, for both UDP and TCP against the correct IP yet it stil says Moderate in game.
To try an overcome this, I have also used my PS5's reserved IP as the default DMZ server address but still suffer the same problem in game.
After every change I have made, I've rebooted both the router and the console.
Now I'm stumped, any ideas?

Re: RAX200 and PS5 - Moderate NAT
Why not just let everything connect automatically without reserving and doing all that DMZ stuff. I have PS5 hardwired with not NAT issues. Never had to open, reserved or DMZ. I understand, this might not be the case for you, but you could start there.

Firmware version? Conected to what? (Some other router, perhaps?)

If one of them doesn't do the job, then I wouldn't expect much from
the others.
For the usual problems with port forwarding, see:
https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1859106
Pay particular attention to item "1".

Re: RAX200 and PS5 - Moderate NAT
The firmware version (V1.0.3.106_1.0.58) which is the latest I believe.
I have a wireless fibre connection which my ISP gives me an IP for my routers MAC address. My router connects directly to the dish.
Thanks for the link, I'll run over them and maybe probe my ISP for a little help.
I factory reset the router last night and used everything default and still had a Moderate NAT in-game. The game itself requires UDP 3074. Whilst I was playing, I logged into the router and it showed on the uPnP port map table that port active and assigned to the consoles IP but it was still moderate in-game.
Thanks for your help.

Everyone's ISP does that. The question is whether your router gets a
public (WAN/Internet) IP address or a private one (which implies another
NAT router between yours and the Internet).
> [...] My router connects directly to the dish.
And if we knew everything which was behind your "the dish", then that
information might be more significant. "Necessary but not sufficient."
> [...] maybe probe my ISP [...]
Good idea. I'd prepare for disappointment.
> [...] it showed on the uPnP port map table [...]
I'd expect explicit port forwarding or DMZ to do their jobs, too, but
that's not good enough when there's another NAT router in the path.

Says who? What is the IP address of the WAN/Internet interface on
the RAX200? (ADVANCED > ADVANCED Home : Internet Port : Internet IP
Address)
If you're worried about revealing secrets, then the top half of the
address, "a.b" out of "a.b.c.d", would satisfy most of my curiosity.
Or, plug that address into the form at: https://whois.arin.net/ , and
see if it is a public or private address.

My ISP said that they have the least possible NAT on my connection.

"least possible" and "no" are spelled differently for a reason.

I rest my case.

Re: RAX200 and PS5 - Moderate NAT
> So this means there is nothing I can do?
Yes, if you put your own NAT router between your PS5 and your ISP's
stuff.
What happens if you connect the PS5 directly to your "the dish"?
You could also configure your RAX200 as a wireless access point, but,
knowing nothing about your "the dish" or how your ISP uses it, I can't
predict how well that will work -- whether you'd be able to connect
multiple devices to it, or whether you'd find yourself sharing a LAN
with other folks, for example. If you want to run that experiment:
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read. Look for
"Set up the router as a WiFi access point".
