RAX40 5ghz wifi randomly dropping
Hi, I've had the RAX40 for about a month now. I keep having problems with the 5ghz band.
I'm running firmware V1.0.3.80_1.0.1
It used to randomly disappear, and show a weird ssid on the nighthawk app (although I couldn't see that on the list of available networks from my devices). I did a reset and reconfigured the router (no backups restored), but now the 5ghz just randomly drops for a few minutes multiple times a day.
Any idea what could fix that? Is that a faulty device?
Thanks in advance.

Re: RAX40 5ghz wifi randomly dropping
If you've only owned it for a month, a couple things I'd recommend.
1. open a support case with netgear. Support is free for the firstt 90 days of purchase. click mynetgear at the top, register an account and the device from there you can contact support. If its a hardware failure, they can help. If its a firmware issue, it gets netgears attention on the firmware issue
2. you can try downgrading the firmware. With the RAX devices, they were released prior to the AX spec even being released. So sometimes newer firmware, isn't always better. with the firmware change, I'd recommend doing it over a hardwired connection.
3. if its specific devices dropping wifi, check that devices driver. And don't rely on windows update/etc to make sure its current. Find out what actual wireless chip you have and go to that manufacturer's website.

Re: RAX40 5ghz wifi randomly dropping
Unfortunately it's not the clients, it disappears on my Desktop PC, Macbook, Facebook Portal, LG TV, Pixel phone.
I've seen others with similar problems on the forum, with the firmware downgrade not always working. Decided to return the router and go with something else. Too much hassle for an almost £200 router.
