(RAX50) Very strange - Internet stops randomly on PC, but resumes if I re-connect the ethernet cable
Hi folks,
I have a very strange issue for well over a year now with my PC (Win10) and RAX50 (Firmware Version V1.0.12.120_2.0.83). Often the PC will lose access to the internet, and can only regain it if I unplug and plug the ethernet cable (either on router or PC). Do you have any idea what is causing this? I have tried the below to no avail:
- Running the network troubleshooter on Win10
- Updating network card drivers (tried multiple ones)
- Hard reset of the router
- Factory reset of the router
- Different ethernet port
The RAX50 is in front of a MediaAccess TG799vac Xtream (v. 17.1) modem/router which is DHCP enabled, in a different IP range range than the RAX50.
It is a very annoying issue - I look forward to any suggestions you have. Thank you!

Anything that makes you think it is the router rather than the PC that causes this?
Windows enjoys making life difficult.
What firmware version do you have on the device?
A number is more useful than "the latest". There can be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
It might also help if you told people what the modem is in front of this router, if there is one. The make and model number could be useful. Is it, by any chance, also a router, with a set of LAN ports on the back?
The reason for asking is that a lot of people turn up here trying to put a router behind a modem that is also a router. That can complicate troubleshooting.

Thank you very much. I updated the firmware version as well as added the modem/router in the original post.

Why not have the RAX in access point mode so you're not in a double nat?

@plemans has put the finger on the likely cause of your problem.
Two routers on your network can cause headaches. For example, you can end up with local address problems. Among other things, the other router can misdirect addresses that the Netgear router usually handles, such as routerlogin.net or the usual IP address for a router, 192.168.1.1.
This explains some of the other drawbacks.

It may be possible to put the modem/router into modem only (bridge) mode and then to use the second device as the router.

Sometimes it is easier to put the second router into AP mode. But that has its own drawbacks:
