RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

Nighthawk Tri-Band AX8 RAX70 Firmware V1.0.12.114

After a lot of troubleshooting with Roku community, and our ISP Spectrum Internet stating they don't block apps or websites, it seems our RAX70 is blocking playing videos on the Roku Channel. All other TCL Roku TV apps work as expected.

When trying to access the Roku Channel website to play a video in a browser on our Windows 10 laptop, we receive an Error 451 page. However, when accessing it using a VPN, it works just fine. So if Spectrum isn't blocking it, then the RAX70 must be.

We don't have Armor, and IPv6 is and has been disabled. We've tried changing the DNS on the laptop's WiFi adapter setting for IPv4 to alternate 8.8.8.8, restarted the browser, and there's still a 451 error on the Roku Channel webpage when trying to play a video.

Roku Channel had been working just fine until about a month ago when it stopped playing videos.

What other RAX70 settings can we check or change to resolve this issue?

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?
I would power OFF the ISP modem for 1 minute. Factory reset the router and power it off. Power ON the ISP modem and let it sync. Then power ON the router and walk thru the setup wizard again using a wired PC and a web browser.
Press the back reset button for 10 seconds then release.

Be sure to not enable Armor or Smart parental controls.

Firmware V1.0.12.114

Modem is Spectrum E31U2V1 DocSIS 3.1 eMTA cable modem

A factory reset of the RAX70 hasn't been performed. Once we have time and opportunity, we'll perform Factory Reset on the RAX70 and see it that resolves it. We'll post an update once we do.

We performed a factory reset on the RAX70 and it's still blocking Roku Channel - Error 451.

Armor and Parental Controls haven't been enabled. The only changes made were the admin password and name of the SSIDs.

Could this be a firmware issue? It didn't give us a chance to not update the firmware. It did it automatically during setup.

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

Also wanted to add that DNS are set to 8.8.8.8., 8.8.4.4., and 1.1.1.1. after the Factory Reset. We performed a DNS flush and everything has been rebooted.

We can play videos on the Roku Channel if we connect Windows 10 laptop, or Roku TV, directly to the modem with an ethernet cable. ISP isn't blocking and the issue isn't with the modem.

As stated, Roku Channel was working just fine until about a month ago, which is around when we updated the RAX70 firmware. We can find no router settings that are causing the block, so it's most likely the firmware.

How can we get earlier versions of the firmware and roll it back manually on the router to check this?

We applied all new previous firmware versions available for RAX70 but we're still getting Error 451.

For every previous firmware version, we rebooted everything before trying to play video from the Roku Channel in a browser on Windows 10 laptop. We tried Factory Reset of the RAX70 again as well but it won't let us bypass updating the firmware.

We're not sure why rolling back the firmware didn't work, but there must be some setting on the RAX70 causing the block that we can't figure out. Especially since there was no issue a month ago and we can play video on the Roku Channel just fine with either VPN or plugging into modem directly.

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

We found our old Asus RT-AC3200 router and tried it. The Roku Channel works just fine with that. Confirmation that there's something wrong with the Netgear RAX70.

We're very disappointed at the lack of help from Netgear on this issue. We'll be replacing our Netgear with Asus and steer clear of Netgear products from now on.

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

Did you factory reset the router and setup from scratch after loading a prior version of FW?

Possible the DMZ on the router may help test for this with the Roku in the DMZ...

You don't have any Armor or Smart Parental controls enabled or had been enabled?

I see you posted here too:

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

RAX70 has been factory reset and re-setup several times before and after loading FW versions. Netgear forces updating to the newest FW version upon setup, though. We rolled back to the most previous FW version to check that there was still an issue.

Armor and Smart Parental controls are not and have never been enabled.

Netgear shows location as North America. We're not sure how to access or change settings for DMZ. We've tried changing DNS to 8.8.8.8, 1.1.1.1., and 8.8.4.4. to no avail.

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

DMZ is under Advanced tab/Setup/WAN Setup.

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

We applied Default DMZ Server and rebooted everything. Attempting to play video on Roku Channel still gives Error 451.

Re: RAX70 Blocking Roku Channel

Odd for sure. Seems like something isn't making it thru the RAX router. Something I would contact NG support and let them know about.
