RAXE500

I have a RAXE500 setup as my main router in the house, while attempting to expand the wired network side I connected a TP-Link 8 port unmanaged switch. However, my RAXE500 is not recognizing the switch is even there, no connection light nothing. Is there a setting I am missing in the router?

Troubleshooting Conducted:

1. Checked each port on the switch with a computer. All are good.

2. Checked each port of the router with a computer. All are good.

3. Reset the switch and put it on DHCP just for sake of trying something. Nothing.

4. Connected an old R7000 netgear router everything connected. Can't use this it is being used somewhere else.

5. Restarted network devices nothing changes.

6. Connected the Raxe500 to the R7000 to the switch the switch works.

Therefore, my conclusion is there is a setting the RAXE500 that is not allowing that connection. Anyone know what it could be?

When you say you reset the switch and put it on dhcp, makes me suspicious if its actually an unmanaged switch as you stated. There isn't anything to reset/change on an unmanaged switch.

Which one?

To paraphrase what @plemans says, unmanaged = dumb.

No controls or things you can tweak. They just pass on the traffic. Routers don't care about them.

Re: RAXE500

Correction your right it is a managed switch. It is TP-SG108E 8-port.

Keep in mind I can get it to recognize on the r7000 router but not the raxe500.

Re: RAXE500

You might check on the tplink forums to see if it has any special features/functions that need to be disabled.

You changed the routers. You may need to change the settings on the switch.

These are not dumb devices that you can plonk in and out willy nilly.

Look at the switch and the router settings for inconsistencies.

Better still, follow the advice from @plemans and talk to the people who made you  switch and dropped you in this mire.

You might also want to check if you need a managed switch if it causes grief. On most networks an unmanaged switch fills the bill. Keep it simple is always a good policy.

Re: RAXE500

Thanks for the advice it is just super weird that it works with a R7000 but not a RAXe500. Thank you again.

Re: RAXE500

The R7000 is 11 years old, several generations behind, and might not be utilizing features that the RAXE is.

Sometimes a "dumber device" isn't always a bad thing. Kind of how older routers tended to tolerate double nat's better than the newer ones do.

Re: RAXE500

I greatly appreciate everyone's assistance. I have accepted it as it is what it is and buy newer stuff.
