Rax80 won’t reset using the button

I purchased a used rax80, and I cannot get it reset using the button. I tried the 30-30-30 rule and that worked briefly, but when I changed some settings it reverted back to the settings it had before reset.

Try the 30/30/30 again. When you get back into it, reinstall the firmware to it (before making any changes so you can get into it) and then do a factory reset from within the gui.

I’ve tried as you suggested several times, and each time upon reset within the gui, the router acts as if I never reset it in the first place.

I suspect that this needs more details about your network. What else is on it?

Then again "used" may also mean broken.

If a standard factory reset fails, there is, as @plemans says, a more severe, recovery reset, that you could try:

    • Press reset for 30 seconds
    • Keep pressing reset while removing power
    • Keep pressing reset for another 30 seconds while apply power

If it works, you may be able to use the usual method to flash the firmware again.

Download the latest firmware for your device – or an older version if that is what you want – and read the Release Notes for how to install it.

If recovery reset fails, you are into TFTP country.

This also explains how to enable TFTP on a Windows PC.

TFTP isn't the easiest operation, timing is important, as are the exact details for the commands and prompts you see. It can take several attempts. So if you are forced to use TFTP try a web search for videos that guide you through the process.

For example:

Different device, but the approach is the same.

The good news is that TFTP has rescued many a dead device.
