RAX50 v2 modem
I am trying to access my router to edit some settings but it keeps on giving me the "Access Denied" message.
I was able to contact support about a week ago and they advised to disconnect the router from the modem while I try to access the router and that worked.
As soon as I plug the modem back in, I get kicked out, within seconds.
I needed a few days to get this step done and since my case was closed and my router is out of warranty ( by a couple of days now ) and cannot get new case for support open.
I hope community help can come to the rescue, hopefully.
Firmware is last version.
So, I can access the router while disconnected from the internet, but as soon as I plug in, it kicks me out with a "Access Denied".
Where do I go from here ?
I don't want to factory reset the router. I have too many things connected to the wifi, too many smart bulbs, so many, I don't want to go through the pain and reconnect them all. Plus phones, plus TVs plus other smart devices and cameras and so forth.
Thank you for your suggestions.
I have to say I held the Netgear brand to a high standard, but this crap takes it down a few stars.

So , I hope this helps someone else out there.
I've downgraded my firmware to V1.1.3.18_2.1.14 and now I don't have the "Access Denied" problem anymore.
(while connected to the interwebs, modem, you know)
Hey NETGEAR stuff, can you please make under firmware update and solve this issue ?
Pretty please with cherry on top ?
I am a big fan of latest firmware and software updates, but this was not a good move.
I don't know where the problem lies exactly, but it's definitely a NETGEAR problem.
Good luck everyone navigating Netgear marketing strategies!

Re: Router Nighthawk RAX 50 v2 Access Denied Message
It's a router. NOT a MODEM. Got mixed up.
Thanks for pointing it out.
Don't know how or if I can edit my post.

Re: Router Nighthawk RAX 50 v2 Access Denied Message
so you're going modem/gateway---->router------>RAX50?
Again, details are key. What modem/gateway do you have and then what router is the RAX50 connected to?

Re: Router Nighthawk RAX 50 v2 Access Denied Message
MODEM ( Telus Fiber Optic ) >>> RAX50 v2 >>> CLIENTS
Modem is in itself a switch ( network access hub - whatever they want to call it ).
Not using it for anything but providing the internet connection to my router above.
RAX50 v2 is the only router in the mix.
Forgot to say I can access the router from the Nighthawk App ( Android ), but that only gives me access to some services not the full set of settings.
RAX50 v2
Firmware version: 1.1.4.28
Why does the router denies access when connected to the internet ? What message does it get from the NETGEAR Borg mothership that tells it that a local connected computer is a threat ?
I've been trying 3 different browsers with no luck.
I've been connecting directly to the router IP, which I changed to something different than the default, something that worked fine until, I don't know, it didn't work anymore. 192.168.100.10
Thanks.

Re: Router Nighthawk RAX 50 v2 Access Denied Message
What modem is it? You still haven't said. You've said its from telus fibre optic. And that its basically a switch.
Which usually implies it has its own routing features built into it.
And while you might "only be using it for access", unless you actually disable those routing features or setup the RAX properly, it puts you in a double NAT and can create issues.

Re: Router Nighthawk RAX 50 v2 Access Denied Message
Sorry if I seem to be skipping on information or maybe not reading your messages.
The modem has been set as a bridge, doesn't do anything but providing internet.
A 10Gb connection on the modem is set as a BRIDGE to RAX 50 v2.
Please see attached images.

Re: Router Nighthawk RAX 50 v2 Access Denied Message
@FURRYe38Thank you for the tip.
A factory reset is not something I am willing to do.
I'd be walking around the house for a day resetting and updating passwords. TVs, Phones, smart things, etc.
But, do I understand this right, after upgrading to the latest firmware, a hardware reset wasn't performed and that leads to this issue - "Access Denied" ?
How come this happens only when connected to the internet ?
If I unplug the modem it lets me connect just fine.
I'll try to find the previous firmware version and downgrade.
Thanks again !

Re: Router Nighthawk RAX 50 v2 Access Denied Message
Factory reset is the only way to fix this. I saw this one my v2 as well, why I posted that info.
As long as you use same SSID name and PW on the Wifi, your devices will and should reconnect with little or minimal interaction.

Thanks for letting us know.
I have reached out to NG about this. No idea if or when it will be fixed.
