Wifi has no Internet connectivity, but wired connection does

Hi, this has been happening more often over the past few months requiring me to restart my router (Nighthawk RAXE500) each time.  I have noticed on my wifi devices (laptop & phones), it shows "connected, no Internet".  I go to my hardwired desktop and see that it is connected and I do have Internet and am able to browse.  To remedy this, I log into the GUI and restart the router and a few days or even weeks go by and then the same thing happens again at various times.  This only affects wireless devices.  Any ideas as to what is causing this?

 

I am running firmware V1.0.12.96, I know there is an updated firmware (1.2.13.100), but that firmware has known issues with VPN access and I had to roll back.

 

My wireless devices are a whole bunch of Smart devices, gaming devices, phones (Androids), laptops (Windows 10, Windows 11).

You may be running in to interference from neighbors with lots of Wi-Fi or crowded channels.

 

Do you have separately identifiable SSID's for the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands?

 

Who is your ISP?  Are you using their DNS servers?  IPv4 or IPv6?

 

Do you have IPv6 enabled?

Something interesting...I tried to change the channel of my 2.4GHz band to Auto, and I get a message "This DFS channel is not allowed to use because the Radar was detected before.  You can change another channel or wait 8 minutes."  Not sure exactly what this means.

For the 2.4 GHz band, the Auto setting does not always interact favorably with various IoT devices.  Recommend you choose channel 11, 6, or 1 in that preference and disable 20/40 coexistence.

 

DFS only applies to channels in the 5 GHz band.  There is no Auto on the 5 GHz band.  Recommend you choose a non-DFS channel in the 40 to 46 range.  Set channel width to 80 until you get this sorted out.

 

Are you located in the US?  Repeat question:  do you have close neighbors with multiple Wi-Fi devices?

For your RAXE500, channel width is controlled by the mode menu.  Select the mode menu option of 1000 Mbps and that will give you a 80 MHz wide channel.

 

Run it for a few days and check for stability.
