pc and mac book problems connecting to network

Since getting a new rax50 netgear nighthawk we are having trouble consistantly getting a network connection. Every other device in the house works beautifly. Every few days my pc will not connect. I get into netgear app on my phone and change the "Smart Connect" Setting. Then it will connect at once. My wife's macbook somehow changes to trying to use our printer as the router. She disconnects from the printer and connects to the router then her mac works.
