Thanks for the details and added info. Glad that enabling WMM helped as well. I believe WMM is enabled by default, or at least should be. In most cases WMM should always be enabled. Will keep this on troubleshooting radar for others that see this as well.
Passed on the internal speed test problem seen to NG as well. Hopefully they will fix that up in next update.
ddkumar wrote:I have an update on the early horrific speed loss issue I had with the new firmware....
When I first installed firmware v4.6, Wifi speeds dropped to about 20Mbs compared to my stable v3.2.18 configuration which was running 400Mbs-800Mbs Wifi speeds, depending on distance. Doing a factory reset "fixed" the problem, but of course I lost all my settings. I restored my old settings one by one and speed tested after each configuration change. For some reason that I don't recall now, I had WMM turned off in my v.3.2.18 configuration. When I turned WMM off using v4.6 firmware, the Wifi throughput completely tanked, back to the 20Mbs. Turning WMM back on restored the full speed. So, fair warning to any v.3.2.18 users with WMM turned off.
Note this is unrelated to the significantly slower Orbi internal Ookla speed test test results I am still getting.

Hello,
I have the same issue after upgrading my RBK752 system from 3.2.18.1 to 4.6.3.7
Since the upgrade the internal Orbi App Ookla test is about 630Mbps compared to 930Mbps before the upgrade.
Wifi connection is the same, I am not able to have more than 630Mbs compared to about 800Mbps before.
I tried reseting both devices, doing many reboot... without any success.
So I downgraded the satellite RBS750 to 3.2.18.1 but was not able to downgrade the RBR750 because the button YES is not available to launch the downgrade.
I then discovered something interesting.
When connecting my iPhone to the satellite in 3.2.18.1 I was able to reach about 800Mbps whereas when I do the same test with my iphone connected to the RBR750 in 4.6.3.7 I am just able to reach 630Mbps.
I then tried to disable WMM for 2,4 and 5 Ghz and had very bad througput of only 20Mpbs when connected to RBR750.
I then reenabled WMM and now I can reach again 800Mbps when connected to the RBR750 in version 4.6.3.7 from my iphone !!!!! (using Ookla App on my iphone).
It could be interesting if for other people having the same issue it is OK after deactivating/reactivating WMM.
However the Orbi internal Ookla tool is still only reaching 630Mps !!
It seems that there is some bugs on this new version.

Yes it's a known issue with the internal speed test.

- Gatorade2000Jul 24, 2021ApprenticeHad the same issue. Manual upgrade and speed dropped to 600s from 900s. Couldn't downgrade router because there isnt the fking YES button. Returned the device to costco(bought for 500$ in sept 2020), bought a new one(for $399) and set it up. speeds are back. Good thing the router doesnt update to 4.6 automatically.

My sateliite RBS750 upgraded automatically to v4.6.3.7 30 during the night I think ...

I too am seeing the same issue with the internal speedtest after the update with my RBR750.
Orbi speedtest before uprading to latest firmware (4.6.3.7) was pretty much in sync with Ookla speedtest app or website. It is now about 300 Mbps slower consistently. When I test usign the Ookla speedtest app or Ookla website I get over 900 Mbps very consistently if I login into the router and use the web interface on the same PC the Orbi speedtest shows only over 600 Mbps. My tests were performed with a wired connection and I waited until the test using the native Orbi speedtest completed before running the other. The mobile app behave similarly. The one thing I have noticed is the time being reported by the Orbi speed test is always off compared to my local time.

Hello,
For your information I have been in contact with Netgear support yesterday to give them troubleshooting information concerning this issue.
Netgear support team asked me information as well as a Netgear debug file when using Netgear internal Ookla test.
Hope they will find a solution to this issue.

Thanks for letting us know.
- Timothy88Jul 31, 2021Luminary
Yes thank you. Scratching my head as to how they 'broke' this.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as your getting to spec speeds at your endpoing devices, you'll be fine. I presume it should be fixed in next update.

Someting to check on when next FW update comes out. All you can do for now.

After reading all of these threads here and on reddit I am 100% convinced this firmware is no good for anyone. My question is this (if is has been previously answered I apoligize) Will my system auto-update at any point and if so is there a way to disable that? I know my app is telling me there is an update available but I want to ensure I do not get it. Thanks!
- Ragar99Aug 01, 2021Luminary
My system can see the new firmware now too. Hope it doesn't auto-upgrade!

Put a router in front of the RBR and block NG update service is about all you can do. You can't block these services on the RBR itself.

- titaniumrx8Aug 01, 2021ApprenticeIs orbi different from nighthawk with regards to updates? In 5 years of nighthawk I've received email notices of update availability but have always needed to apply updates manually (which is my preferred method).
- Gatorade2000Aug 01, 2021Apprenticeyou can setup automatic updates on the routergon.net page

Hello,
For your information Netgear support team has just informed me that they confirm internal SpeedTest results issue with the latest firmware.
I understand they are now going to escalate to next support level.
- ThaladorAug 02, 2021Apprentice
If NG knows there are issues why are they not pulling this from updates and the website?
- Gatorade2000Aug 02, 2021ApprenticeCan we sue NG? Developers in Philippines arent good
- FURRYe38Aug 02, 2021Guru - Experienced User
Orbi runs things differently from non Orbi routers. NG seems to reserve the right to auto update FW to Orbi systems when new major versions get released. Something that historically hasn't worked well for some users. On NightHawk routers, users can disable this.

Maybe the Orbi app applies automatically? I rarely use the app - FURRYe38Aug 02, 2021Guru - Experienced User
IF you choose to update, I recommend using the RBRs FW update web page and use the Update ALL button. This will update the RBS and RBR. Or if your more in to the manual way, manually download the FW files and apply to the RBS web page first, then the RBR. If you choose to do this, I would power OFF the RBR and RBS for 30 seconds then back ON. Don't reboot the system, power it OFF then back ON.
