Re: New RBR850 / RBS850 Series Firmware Version v3.2.17.12 Released

Updated mine today. MANUALLY downloaded and manually updated RBS first the RBR lastly. No Facory reset. Just powered all units OFF for 30 seconds then back ON.

Echo Dot had problems connecting and maintaining playing of music. First I thought it was IPv6 DNS and RBS configuration. Then I found the RBRs wireless channel set for 36 instead of 40. Set to 40, re-enabled IPv6 DNS and RBS and Dot has now been playing fine.

Another item I noticed after v12 was loaded today, Both my RBS are ethernet connected to the RBR, however wireless devices connected at the RBS are now being reported on the RBRs web page as a wireless connection, even though the backhaul is wired. Very cool.

I have the RBK753S and the same firmware is also now available for manual download. I just installed as well. No Factory reset, and have not bothered to do a full powerdown reboot (yet). So far everything reconnected as expected.

One thing I noticed right away is when I use the GUI on the satellites it shows security for 5G wrong. Not sure if it was like this before though... Pic attached.

Just manually updated the satellite and router (RBK852) & all seems well...will report any issues I come across as I inspect things....

Curious, what is the "Supports the new device notification feature?"

Me as well. Maybe something do to with the Orbi app? I didn't see anything in UI that stood out. Just that wifi devices are being reported as wireless even though they are connected to a wired RBS.

I'll also recommend users check there 5Ghz channel, NG doesn't recommend using 36 anymore for some reason. Seems to cause some problems if used as I noticed after loading mine yesterday that 36 was selected from what I had on 40. My Echo Dot would not work right until I change the RBR to use channel 40. All working now. So if you seen to see some wifi problems, try manual channel 40.

Re: New RBR850 / RBS850 Series Firmware Version v3.2.17.12 Released

I installed 17.12, and before I could even get it minimally set up, it imploded.

"Hated It!"   (ala Jimmy Fallon)

So after working with a Taskmaster, I mean a Specialist all day, I ended up reverting back to 3.2.16.22. Back to operational now.

Not sure what I'll do next . . . Smiley Frustrated

Sounds like operator error...err I mean something in your Orbi. Smiley Tongue Odd. I may reset mine and setup from scratch and see how it goes. Wondering if FW is releaving some possible HW issues with your system.

I did noticed that my one 3rd gen NEST had gone off line after being online for same hours as after the when the system as updated to v12.

I'll try a reset sometime this weekend and setup from scratch. I also need to test wireless speeds at each RBS.

I still would like to get my hands on your Orbi Sir.

I don't see anything in the release notes pertaining to resolve the issue with very consistent and intermittent DNS failures  but it's looking good so far!    Would be really nice if this issue was finally fixed!

EDIT:  Spoke too soon first error of the day just happened 😞 😞 😞

Ya, this version doesn't have any DNS problem fixes. Some of enabled IPv6 settings and helps to resolve this as a work around.

Plese review:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-AX/Intermittent-DNS-Errors-and-WiFi-Issues/td-p/1950768/jump-t...

I recommend contact NG support and let them know what your seeing.

Maybe (hopefully) it was fixed but not documented?  Fingers crossed.   I've only had the 1 error today so far and am hearing good things from the 4 other people using the same router in our home (that have been plagued by these issues for months).

Re: New RBR850 / RBS850 Series Firmware Version v3.2.17.12 Released

Definiately spoke too soon.    Haven't been on the new firmware for 24 hours and the router already crashed.    It may have had issues with DNS queries on the previous version but it never crashed.

Boy I wish I could return this thing.... May just suck up the loss and get a real networking product.

EDIT:  Any way to get meaningful logs out of this thing?

Crashed? How so?

You can collect Debug logs from rourterIPaddress/debug/htm to pass on to NG support.

By "Crashed" I meant everything works (locally) but it loses internet connection completely.    Rolling back now... (happened again this morning).

Yea.. the thing about NG support is that they want me to pay for support to fix it lol... nope... no deal.

Going to <router IP>/debug/htm redirects to <router IP>/debug/start.htm but nothing loads.

Ooops my bad, that should be DEBUG.HTM. Sorry.

That would not be a crash, just loss of internet services,

What is the mfr and model# of your ISP modem/ONT?

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update?

What version are you rolling back to?

I’m on 3.2.16.6 and I think I’m having the same issue as you.

I'm on (rolled back to) V3.2.16.6_1.4.4 which is stable but I'm having a different issue with DNS (which can be worked around by configuring DNS per host on the network).   Pretty sure its an issue with dnsmasq on the AX6000 and pretty sure NG doesn't care.

Just make sure you update the Satellite first (RBS) then the router (RBR).

 - already rolled back so debug doesn't matter now but thanks for showing me.

-  agree its loss of internet which basically means its worthless lol so may as well be down/crashed

-  it's not an issue with my modem, rolling back to V3.2.16.6_1.4.4 works fine without ANY modem / ISP level changes or reboots

-  no factory resets in this scenario but I have done so in the past with no change in results.  To be clear, I did NOT factory reset either the satellite or main router post firmware upgrade nor downgrade.

- V3.2.16.6_1.4.4 is stable now (does not randomly disconnect and not reconnect to the modem/ISP) -- also no factory reset on downgrade

I should have learned my lesson from the past.   With my last NG router, I ended up installing 3rd party software on it and it was fine, never worked better.

NG hardware is good their software is just garbage.    At some point, there's going to be a threat / vulernability that will force me to upgrade and I'll have no other options but to buy another router and throw this one in the garbage (unless there's third party support by then).

Is there any 3rd party options yet for AX6000?  I haven't found any...
