RBR840 Add Satellite

I need to add a satellite to my Orbi RBR840 system and I cannot figure out which satellite model is compatible with it? You would think the Netgear site would link to the appropriate satellite from the product page but they don't.  Want to be sure I get the right one so I appreciate your help.

Alas, the Orbi WiFi 6 "AX" product line is entirely different than the residential WiFi 5 product line, which is what people who participate in this community forum own.  To get an informed response, you need to post in the forum devoted to the AX product:

https://community.netgear.com/t5/Orbi-AX/bd-p/en-home-orbi-ax

From the AX user manual, the satellites appears to be the RBS840 and RBS850:

Re: RBR840 Add Satellite

As mentioned, any 8 series RBS will be what you should get...

Re: RBR840 or RBK842 Add Satellite

Unless you are sure of the compatibility with your existing Orbi router, I do not recommend to buy expensive Routers when it comes to market 1st time! I thought I have the top on the line best Orbi Router RBR840 (same as RBK842) in the world covering nearly 5000 Sq. Ft. Unfortunately, the WiFi signal for 2.4 GHz is so week, my $300 RainBird Controller module does not pick up even at 100 Ft distance from the main router !!!! I have not found RainBird controller that works on 5GHz. Tried to call Orbi specialist multiple times, even bought another expensive outdoor Satilite RBS50Y for $300 to boost the signal. Orbi specialist could not even configure to the existing network. Need additional Satilite or Signal Booster for 2.4 GHz for the existing RBR840 router set. No one is able to help to resolve this issue even after spending > 10 hrs of my time !!!!

Yes, another "ding" for Netgear.  The Support web site links to a page for the RBS850 satellite, which says very clearly on page 4 of the Product Data Sheet, "What do I need?  Requires RBS850 router SOLD SEPARATELY"

https://www.netgear.com/images/datasheet/orbi/RBS850.pdf

Alas, searching for RBS840 does not produce a link to a product data sheet for that satellite.  Instead, there is a link to the RBK842 package.  Really annoying.

So, it is 100% guaranteed that an RBS840 satellite will integrate with the RBR840 router.  100%.

Ordinarily, one would think that the RBS850 satellite would as well, but with no documentation, the only person who might know would be someone who owns an RBR840 and has added a satellite.

OR.... Netgear provides 90 days of "complimentary support" with purchase of an Orbi system.  If this system is "new", I would think that Netgear support ought to be able to give a definite answer.

This problem introduces a separate issue that forum participants are not likely to notice because of the heading on the original post.  There is a good chance that someone will have suggestions if you start a new discussion with a different subject heading.  It will help if you identify the model of Rainbird irrigation controller, provide more specifics about the physical layout, and describe "where it fails."  Is it the initial setup?  Can the controller be set up in the house, but then does not connect when moved outside?

Re: RBR840 Add Satellite

Customers with Orbi Router RBR840 (RBK 842) can only go with 2 extended 3rd or 4th satilites.  RBS850 Still not available in the market !!!!! Netgear is just advertising and trying to encourage to buy expensive routere.  Or Buy another Outdoor Satilite RBS50Y (hard time to connect to the existing Wifi 6 system.  Returning Brand new to Costco today !!

Re: RBR840 Add Satellite

Possible that the 840 series may not have separate RBS840s that are being separately marketed. Seems like only the 850 series has separate RBS850s that are being sold separately. Though the RBS850 probably would work with the 840 series.

Re: RBR840 Add Satellite

Also current world events have probably introduced a slow down and delays in new inventory. Something to keep in mind for any kind of market and inventory.

Re: RBR840 Add Satellite

Any progress on this?

Most RBS8 series will work. You can get a RBS50Y and use it in extender mode.

Be aware that current world evens may impact the market and new inventory.
