ORBI 860 SERIES APP ERROR MESSAGE

Successfully set up ORBI router in AP mode after disabling WIFI on ISP’s modem/router. All good until I enable my VPN app on IOS device when I receive an error message stating that ORBI cannot be found. It’s strange because I continue to have internet access.

Any comments welcomed

Re: ORBI 860 SERIES APP ERROR MESSAGE

Activating a VPN on any device creates a "tunnel" to the internet.  Since the Orbi is a local device, it will pass all that encrypted VPN traffic to the VPN host (NordVPN, ExpressVPN... whichever one you use).

Many VPN applications are able to distinguish between traffic directed "outward" and traffic directed to the same IP Subnet that the device running the VPN is on.  The key is to make it clear to the VPN software that you want the local LAN.

Thus, rather than open a web browser to orbilogin.net . open the browser to the actual local IP address of the router, which is usually 192.168.1.1

The screen shot appears to be from the Orbi 'app'.  Has Anywhere Access been enabled on this specific iPhone?  That can be done only when the iPhone is connected to the Orbi WiFi LAN (before starting the VPN software).

Re: ORBI 860 SERIES APP ERROR MESSAGE

Thanks form your comments. I am using Nord VPN. I used to use Proton VPN but could not access CarPlay or AirPlay because twin tunnelling is not configured. The screen shot is from the ORBI app. Anywhere Access enabled and disabled results in the same error message. As you can see, the screen shot with the VPN enabled and connected to Anywhere Access states “No internet connection available” when it actually is working fine.

I suppose that going forward this is not an issue as the network appears to work just fine with the VPN enabled or disabled…..
