Orbi Pro 6 with managed 10g switch as DHCP server and as backhaul (ethernet)

Hi folks,

I have the Orbi Pro 6 WiFi Business and have about 6 satellites for my home (multi level with lots of square footage). I am planning to buy a 10g managed switch (either Netgear or Cisco) and I was wondering, for the backhaul, does the 10g port even have any effect on the satellites when it's using ethernet for it's backhaul?

What version do you have?

You put pro 6 which is a couple different versions.

But you also put the SRK60 which is a AC version.

I do prefer a wired backhaul and when you have more satellites, its beneficial as it takes a load off the wireless backhaul.

With an all- (or almost-all-) wired backhaul customers are sacrificing the dedicated wi-Fi radio reserved for the wireless backhaul.

This makes a nice set-up for now.

Mid term, I would suggest to plan ahead on how your network should look like within a year, two, or three.

Just for the Orbi Pro backhaul alone, 10G ports don't make a lot of sense. You certainly have other reasons for a 10G capable wired network, say NAS, workstations requiring a faster network, Internet access beyond of 1 Gb, ...

If the intention will be to bring the Wi-FI network from 802.11ac to 802.11ax/Wi-Fi6, access points will be 2.5G or even 5G, so requiring MultiGig capable ports, and most likely at least PoE+ (802.3at), or even PoE++ (802.3bt).

For such an all wired wireless environment, you don't need an expensive "throw-in" Mesh system kit including a dedicated wireless backhaul capability. Just for the management, this isn't required, too.

Overall, for the switches and the router - already in combination with the existing Orbi Pro 5 system - some VLAN capabilities are almost mandatory.

Let's brainstorm now.
