SXR30 Satellite using backhaul over Ethernet will not auto upgrade firmware

My SXr30 and the SXS30 that is Wireless Connected Satellite will auto upgrade firmware. But my 1 Satellite connected via Ethernet Backhaul will not seem to auto upgrade.

Anyone seen this ?

Regards,

Bryan

How is the SXS connected to the SXR? directly to the back of the SXR or is there a patch panel or LAN switch in between?

SXS30 is connected via switch.

Should it be plugged into SXR30 directly? if so then Lan configuration would need to be default for that port correct ?

Hi @aafa760,

Just want to follow-up if you already tried connecting the SXS30 directly to the SXR30 via Ethernet cable and if that auto-upgrades the firmware.

Also, the LAN configuration should be fine with its default settings.

Does it matter the speed of the connection? 10mib ok? trying to get it to 100mib or 1 gb

Will test this this weekend.

Jerald

I direct connected the sat using network back haul to the router so next firmware update we will see if it connects to the router,

in the advanced admin section about firmware update it still has not connected to sat2.

I was able to login to sat 2 and update firmware manualy

UPDATE

The connection from Router to Sat is now direct no switch and the VLAN/BRIDGE setting for the two router lan ports used in the network.

set for Default1 the Wireback haul now shows connection and firmware at correct levels.

Do you think the switch caused firmware upgrade not working?

Not sure if so it a Netgear Switch you would expect them to test it with their own gear.,

Update Two after the test I  also tried wireless back haul as I expected the satellite  to  not connect but it connected fine via wireless.

We will run the class rooms via wireless this week to make sure no issues,

What is the brand and model# of this switch?

What CAT# LAN cables are you using? CAT6 is recommended.

I'm currently using my SXK30 in AP mode. SXS30 is connected to the SXR with NGs GS-105/108 series switches in between.

Netgear GS724TPP Switch.

no vlan tags on ports

Any way I was able to connect all the sat via wireless and all is working as described.

I will revisit this when  the new classrooms are finished they will be cat 6 connected to the switch or Directly to the Router.

Re: SXR30 Satellite using backhaul over Ethernet will not auto upgrade firmware

Ok. That's a managed switch. Seen some manages switches cause problems for some users. One user mentioned years ago about disabling all IGMP protocols on these switches was a solution. Might give this a try. Not sure if Orbi pro would be affected in same way as Orbi Home though. Also seen some switches with Green Ethernet features cause problems as well, tough I was given feedback about Orbi Pro shouldn't be bothered by this. Otherwise give a non managed switch a try between the SXR and SXS.

Re: SXR30 Satellite using backhaul over Ethernet will not auto upgrade firmware

Yes they cause issues we had to disable the port disabling features for the ports ORBI are connected it appears the switch see them as loops.

It took me like 3 hours to find a resources that understood the switch after it was installed and started to disable port after port that router was connected to.
Switch was supplied by VOIP contractor.

We had just old JGS524E before no issues!
Technology got to love it.

Re: SXR30 Satellite using backhaul over Ethernet will not auto upgrade firmware

Ya, give the IGMP protocol a try on that switch.

These switches and Orbi are kind of corner case issues. Seen this happening since Orbi 50 series. The communications between Orbi routers and the satellites seems specific and anything getting the way seems to cause problems. 🙄

Why we recommend non managed switches as first option to try.

Always something with tech. 😜

Ok all green Ethernet disabled

L2 loops are all log only for all ports

DOS auto disabled as the switch behind FW

lets see how this works

Did you find any IGMP options on this switch?

YES I made sure every IGMP setting was disabled in the Multicast  header.
