SXR50 router solid magneta

Since a couple of days (maybe since the latest Insight update on March 17th?) the LED bar on the router is solid magneta. Ans also "Basic", "Home" in the router's web interface says: "Internet Error. Not Connected".

The router is configured as access point behind FRIT!ZBox 7590.

Both satellites SXS50 are connected to the router and internet is available throughout the network.

I have  shutdown and (after 60 seconds) re-booted both the modem and the router.

What could be the reason for this LED light shining solid magneta?

The manual says about the LED bar shining solid magneta: "The router cannot connect to the Internet. See You cannot access the Internet on page 209."

What can I do? Or is this to be expected after the March 17th update maybe?

Hmm, I cannot remember switching the cable <FRIT!ZBox modem to Orbi router> from WAN to LAN port in the Orbi router.

But when I switched it back to the WAN port in the Orbi router, both the magneta light and the error message disappear

Re: SXR50 router solid magneta

Fritzbox usually makes modem/router combo devices. do you have the SXR's ip address set in the fritzbox's DMZ?

Or the fritzbox in passthrough only mode?

it wouldn't be the first time an ISP update made an issue with an old setting on the gateway

When the router announces "Not Connected", this is a signal that some specific web resource is not responding to the router's attempt to connect.  It's not the entire internet, only some specific URL or IP address.  The same software that creates this status message also turns on the bright magenta light.  When every device on the network has Internet, it's sort of stupid for the router to warn that there is no connection.

Not having a "business system", I am unfamiliar with Insight support options.  (We residential customers enjoy our 90 days of 'complimentary support' and then either pay for a Gear Head subscription or turn to the user forums.) Are you allowed to ask questions of Netgear?

I'm assuming you did the usual, "Turn everything off and back on again" routine?

Re: SXR50 router solid magneta

Reading this:

https://en.avm.de/service/knowledge-base/dok/FRITZ-Box-7590/131_Setting-up-a-DMZ-with-the-FRITZ-Box/

I understand that FRIT!ZBox does not support DMZ.

Nor is the Orbi router defined a an "exposed host" on the FRI!ZBox.

Do you mean to say that it SHOULD be defined as such for the (kind of) error message to disappear?

Also, when enabling Passthrough (see attached screenshot), the "error" remains. That is, if you mean PPPoE with "Passthrough only mode"?

Re: SXR50 router solid magneta

Hi and thanks for your input.

Me too, I only had 90 does of support 🙂

So no, I am not allowed either to ask for support unfortunately.

And yes\, I already did the "usual"

Maybe I can dig into the logs for "some specific web resource is not responding to the router's attempt to connect"

To be continued...

Re: SXR50 router solid magneta

Hello eljejer,

Thank you for your post!

I understand that you are seeing errors in your router web interface that states "Internet Error. Not Connected". Your network configuration has been working since you switched the ethernet-connected port from the LAN to the WAN. Since this error occurred after the most recent update please factory reset your Orbi and then verify if the error message is present.

Best,

Kevin

Re: SXR50 router solid magneta

Hello Kevin,

I don't quite understand;

you mean to say that I should perform a factory reset, despite the fact that the error message is gone now, after I switched the cable between router en Orbi AP port from LAN to WAN? Please explain. Thanks!

Re: SXR50 router solid magneta

Hello eljerjer,

Thank you for your post!

I thought that you switched the ports and it was still getting the error. Since the only thing that changed was the update then the thought is to factory reset the system so that it can clear all configurations and start on an empty slate. However, since the issue is gone there is no need to proceed with that troubleshooting path.

Best,

Kevin
