Disappointed with coverage of AX6000 / RBS850

I just installed a RBS850 / AX6000 Mesh system with one router and two satellites. I previously had an RBK50 system with 3 satellites that worked good, but I needed more satellites and was told that the RBS850 should give much better coverage.

It does not.

We have a 100 year old house with a large chimney in the middle. This chimney blocks the signal so much that I get 5-50 MBps. That's why I had 3 satellites with the old system, to cover the area "behind" the chimney. It worked pretty good, even though it costed money to buy the extra satellite of course.

So with a new AX6000 system I thought that I didn't need to buy an extra satellite, but obviously I do! I regret bying this new setup, because it didn't help in any way!* 😞

But now when I have this new setup, what satellite should I buy? I don't want to fall in the pit once more of not being able to use old stuff with the new... (which is quite bad by Netgear actaully)

* To be honest, browsing the internet is actually faster.

/sad and disappointed

Re: Disappointed with coverage of AX6000 / RBS850

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR📡 and RBS🛰️ to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

Be sure the RBR is located on the main floor and not in a basement if one is present.

Fifth time I try to answer this now.

I have made a picture, that should answer all questions.

Re: Disappointed with coverage of AX6000 / RBS850

It seems that answer was saved properly. To follow up, the house is 9 meter wide, and far below the promised 350 square meter coverage.

Yes, the network is faster, but not $1000 faster (as this system costed me).

PS. And also; Thanks for the input!

PPS. I realized why my answers wasn't saved. Netgears forum engine don't accept the square meter symbol ("m" and a superscript "2"). It didn't say anything though, next time I refreshed the page my answer wasn't there.

Re: Disappointed with coverage of AX6000 / RBS850

The distance between R and S1 is TOO Close. 30 feet is starting distance between the RBR and a RBS.

For that size of home the R and one RBS should work but you seem to have blocking building materials in the center.

Wondering if a Power Line adapter to connect S2 RBS to the RBR and turn OFF S1 RBS would be better.

Re: Disappointed with coverage of AX6000 / RBS850

What's a Power Line adapter, and should that really be necessary? (I don't want to draw cables in this old house, it's not made for that, hence the Mesh solution)

I'll try to just disconnect S1 and see what happens.

Eventually I will have my home office in the attic, then they will even be more separated.

I thought I had the latest firmware, since it updated when I installed it yesterday. But I see now that I have version 4, and the URL you provided has v7… 😬

So manual update then?

Thanks again!
