Help with Orbi WiFi 6 System (RBK752) AX4200 WIFI Speeds

Hello. I have recently purchased and set up the 'Orbi WiFi 6 System (RBK752) AX4200'. Our ISP is Virgin Media 1GB package with supplied hub. I have connected the Orbi router to the VM Hub via ethernet cable as instructed, placed orbi satelite in suitable location and follwed all installation instructions. Everything is connected and working fine but I am very dissapointed in WIFI speeds over Ookla Speedtest, these are coming in about 250mbs - 300mbs max which is actually lower than we were getting with just the VM Hub router. We have very little devices connected as of yet so that cannot be an issue, I have seen other users here and in other forums getting significantly faster speeds over WIFI e.g. in excess of 650mbs. I am running speedtests on iphone XR and most recent ipad.

The Orbi set up has helped with deadspots in the house but very dissapointed in general WIFI speeds considering the spec of this Orbi setup. Can anyone help or provide any advice / suggestions on maximising the router and satelite capabilities.

Thanks

Mark

Re: Help with Orbi WiFi 6 System (RBK752) AX4200 WIFI Speeds

Thanks Mikey, I spent the evening trying out most of those steps but no success. Do you know if it is sufficient to just have my ISP Hub in modem mode and run the Orbi in router mode instead of AP? For some reason every time I place the Orbi router in AP Mode the whole system crashes on me, the internet disconnects and does not come back until I perform a full reset and reboot.

All wired connections appear fine, ISP wired is about 900mpbs and Orbi wired is about 900mpbs+ as well. It's only when I connect Orbi to a wireless device such as my iPad (newest gen) that the signal drops about 50% to max 450mpbs. Less for iPhone XR and laptop wireless.

Re: Help with Orbi WiFi 6 System (RBK752) AX4200 WIFI Speeds

If your ISP modem has a built in router already, This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the Orbi router to the modem, configure AP mode on the Orbi router. https://kb.netgear.com/31218/How-do-I-configure-my-Orbi-router-to-act-as-an-access-point and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7LOcJ8GdDo&app=desktop
