I had orbi 850s that worked fine but my 960s intermittently disconnect

Hello, I suspect I'm experiencing the same problem.  I had orbi 850s that worked fine but my 960s intermittently disconnect, especially if I have the network arranged in serial (router - sat 1 - sat 2) which is the ideal config for my home because to arrange in star formation would mean that I need to run hard-wire from cable modem across half the house to support the router rather than use it as a wired back-haul for the first satellite.   I have worked with support including tier three for a month and even after manual firmware upgrades the problem persists.  If anyone got to the bottom of this, I'd appreciate any insight.  I will update if we find a fix if I'm able to keep toughing it out until resolved; I'm ready to throw in the towel and go to a different solution.

Good news!  The firmware resolved my problems; it now works as it should in my house, even in my preferred daisy chain (R -> Sat1 -> Sat2) config!  great coverage and performance and now without the reliability issue.

I had 850s and now 960s but not experienced intermittent disconnects (not caused by my cable modem).  What do you mean by "intermittently disconnect"?  Is it that they lose WAN connectivity, that your devices lose connectivity to the Orbi network, etc.?  We can offer suggestions depending on the nature of your disconnect.  Otherwise it's too general of a description to assume that other people's root causes are the same as yours.

Also - There was a new 96x firmware released very recently: https://www.netgear.com/support/download/?model=RBKE963.  Try it first and see if it changes anything for you.

What Firmware version is currently loaded?
What is the Mfr and model# of the Internet Service Providers modem/ONT the NG router is connected too?
Be sure your using a good quality LAN cable between the modem and router. CAT6 is recommended.

What is the size of your home? Sq Ft?
What is the distance between the router and 📡 satellite(s)? 30 feet or more is recommended in between RBR and RBS📡 to begin with depending upon building materials when wirelessly connected.

What channels are you using? Auto? Try Auto and 48 on 5Ghz. Or try setting manual channel 1, 6 or 11 on 2.4Ghz and 40 to 48 channel on 5Ghz.
Any Wifi Neighbors near by? If so, how many?

Re: I had orbi 850s that worked fine but my 960s intermittently disconnect

Hi, thanks for the heads up about the firmware; Support had escalated me to tier3 about a month ago and was awaiting the new firmware - they sent me an intermediary version, a week ago but that it didn't fix it.  I just applied V6.3.7.5_3.2.25.  Too early yet to know if that solved it but it is rare that I don't go a day without the problem manifesting so I will know very soon.

I will keep this thread posted but here are some additional details for context just in case:

By intermittent disconnects I mean that the satellites were disconnecting from the router and from each other and thus any devices attached would also get disconnected.  All networks (IOT and main) and all frequences (2.4, 5ghz) would disconnect.  My preferred config for this home is serial, (router -> sat1 -> sat2), not star network because I have a hardwired back-haul between the room on one side of the house with the cable modem connection to the middle of the house with the first satellite.   The disconnects weren't as bad with star formation but in that setup, the distance from the router to one of the sats was too far for a good signal.

Let us know how the new FW version works for you.

Please give feedback for the questions presented if you see to still see problems.
